PRINTING INDUSTRY EXPO LAUNCHED IN TASHKENT

The 10th International Exhibition of Printing products O’ZBEKinPrint and O’ZUPAK was launched at the Uzexpocenter in Tashkent, Jahon Information Agency reported.

Uzbek Agency for Print and Information, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, Russian trade representation in Uzbekistan and Uzbek-Russian Joint Venture PolRos organized the event.

Uzbekistan accomplishes tangible work on developing print, commissioning new industries to the sphere equipped with latest technologies of world standards. Strengthening logistical basis of printing companies, raising professional skills of specialists, increasing the volume of export-bound products are an obvious confirmation of the aforesaid.

Over 80 firms and companies from Uzbekistan, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries are present their products and services. State Production Association Davlat belgisi, publishing and printing houses Uzbekistan and Uqituvchi named after Gofur Ghulom, big foreign companies of Korus of South Korea, Colorflex of the United Kingdom, and Polygraphspectr of Russia are among them.

The exhibition offers the sections of computer technologies, cutting-edge printing machines, equipments on making book-covers and labels, office supplies, advertisement, design and technical services.

They allow to learn about achievements in printing, exchange views, ink contracts and agreements on cooperation, as well as extend comprehensive relations.

UZBEK-KOREAN COOPERATION SEMINAR ON DEEP PROCESSING OF HEAVY OIL HELD

An Uzbek-Korean cooperation seminar on deep processing of heavy oil was held in Tashkent, Uzbekneftegaz said. A group of Korean specialists led by chairman of Korean Petroleum Association Kim Seng-ki presented technologic novelties on deep processing of heavy oil. The guests noted that the South Korean government pays special attention for cooperation with Uzbekistan and plans to develop experience exchange in oil and gas sector, Uzreport Business Information Portal reported.

During the seminar, the participants discussed issues of processing heavy oil and its methods, quality management and others. The Korean side highly valued potential of the Uzbekneftegaz specialists and agreed to hold such seminar in future. They also expressed readiness to develop cooperation.

UZBEK-CHINESE BUSINESS FORUM TO DISCUSS COOPERATION ISSUES

An Uzbek-Chinese Business Forum will take place in Tashkent on 23 September with the participation of businesses and entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan and China, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan told UzReport.

The event, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, is aimed at establishing cooperation between Uzbek and Chinese companies, working in such areas as car industry, agriculture, production and supply of equipment, lightening products, wholesale and retail trade and others.

The chamber said the sides will discuss issues of bilateral collaboration and establishment of contacts among Uzbek and Chinese businesses.

TASHKENT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RECEIVES INTL AWARD

"Airport" Association of CIS Civil Aviation has named Tashkent International Airport as "The Most Dynamically Developing Airport in Central Asia", Uzbekistan Havo Yollari (Uzbekistan Airways) said.

The cup and diploma for the first place has been handed over to the Tashkent airport during the session of the committee on energy equipment of the Association.

The Uzbek airline said that this was not the first award of the Tashkent airport. The company added that the development level of the airport allows to say that it will become international transport hub, linking passenger and cargo flights.

"Airport" Association of CIS Civil Aviation was created on December 18, 1990. It is a non-governmental and non-commercial organization that was founded to coordinate activity of its members, expand their business possibilities, and represent and protect their interests on a state level.

As of 1 January 2008, the Association comprises 231 members representing 22 countries.

The Association provides services dealing with analysis, assimilation, and introduction of the national and world experience into the activity of the airport complexes and their infrastructures on the territory of CIS member states.

ICTEXPO 2008 TO BE HELD IN TASHKENT, ANDIJAN THIS YEAR

Annual International exhibition of information technologies ICTExpo 2008 will be held in Tashkent city and Andijan city on 24-26 September.

The exhibition will demonstrate products and solutions of telecommunication technologies, systems on information protection and others.

The exhibition will include seminars and conferences on development of corporate IP-telephony, practical solutions on use of electronic digital signatures and cryptographic protection of information, etc.

Leading companies of information and technology sector of Uzbekistan will attend the exhibition. It is expected that over 90 companies from Uzbekistan and abroad will participate the event.

TASHKENT HOSTS EVENTS DEDICATED TO PEACE DAY

Tashkent will host events dedicated to the International Peace Day on 19 September. The International Peace Day is marked on 21 September of each year and calls for a full day of peace and ceasefire throughout the world.

The International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 for "commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and people".

This year, football matches in 156 UN member countries will be held. The motto of the matches will be One Day One Goal.

Various events dedicated to the International Peace Day will be held in Uzbekistan on the eve of the day. One of the events will be master class of players of the Uzbekistan national team to representatives of Special Olympics.

EVENT DWELLS ON ROLE OF NGOS IN STATE & PUBLIC CONSTRUCTION

Tashkent hosted roundtable on consolidating public cooperation between non-state non-profit organizations and state structures, new mechanisms of financing the activity of non-state non-profit organizations, according to Jahon Information Agency.

The National association of non-state non-profit organizations of Uzbekistan is reported to have organized the seminar. The staff members of Parliamentary commission on administering means of public fund to support non-state non-profit organizations and other institutions of civil society at the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, ministries of labor and social protection of population, finance and justice, State tax committee, municipality of the city of Tashkent, and public organizations took part at the event.

Those who spoke at the seminar have said that Uzbekistan pays a particular attention to further liberalizing society, raising the status of public and non-state organizations along gradual reforms now underway vis-a-vis transition from a strong state to a strong democratic society.

The Law “On guarantees of activity of non-state non-profit organizations” of January 3, 2007 serves as a legal basis for developing non-state non-profit organizations and other institutions of civil society. Non-state non-profit organizations play an important role in raising public activeness of citizens, broadly attracting them to addressing urgent issues of state and public construction, strengthening democratic values in people’s minds.

At the moment over five thousand non-state non-profit organizations operate in Uzbekistan.

The delegates to the roundtable are also reported to have considered the reports on cooperation of non-state non-profit organizations as well as new mechanisms of state financing of public organizations.

JUSTICE MINISTRY HOLDS EXPANDED SESSION OF BOARD

Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan held an expanded session of its board, the ministry told UzReport.com.

Representatives of the Institute on monitoring of acting legislation under the President of Uzbekistan, the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Institute of Research of Civil Society, National Human Rights Center and regional and territorial departments of the justice bodies attended the meeting.

The board discussed at the meeting implementation of the presidential decree "On programme of measures dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Right" from 1 May 2008.

The decree is aimed at providing information to world community on ongoing reforms in human rights protection in Uzbekistan, changes and political and social-economic spheres, explain meaning and importance of the declaration. The document approved a programme of measures directed to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Justice Ministry entrusted to implement 11 measures out of 25 and the ministry development control plan, which has been implemented gradually. Among the measures was the public control over the activities of the state bodies on protection of human rights.

The ministry in cooperation with the Institute on monitoring of acting legislation, Ombudsman and National Human Rights Center was entrusted to analyzed activities of the divisions on protection of human rights under the Justice Ministry, Prosecutor-General's Office, Interior Ministry and submit proposal on improvement of their efficiency.

These organizations studied the activity of the Department of Protection of Human Rights of the Justice Ministry and its territorial divisions. The note on the results of the study has been submitted to the President's Office of Uzbekistan.

The note covered the activities of the Justice Ministry in this direction and its shortcoming and errors, upcoming tasks and successes.

The action plan on elimination of shortcomings and errors were developed and recommendations were given to improve the work in this direction, the Ministry said. Besides, it was pointed to necessity to cooperate with bodies on protection of human rights.

The session of the board also underlined necessity to stir up work on explaining meaning and importance of the presidential decree to population, improve coverage on this issue in local media and improve work of the official website of the Justice Ministry.

DELEGATES TO FORUM IN TASHKENT DISCUSS OZONE LAYER PROTECTION

The ozone layer of the atmosphere is a shield that holds back the harmful ultra-violet rays of sun. The natural imbalance resulted in ecologic danger related to demise of ozone layer on the planet, according to the agencies.

According to the research carried out by scholars, application of refrigeration techniques, fire extinguishing, creation of artificial climate, and use of chemical substances in production related to chlorine and fluorine carbons serve as reason for erasing the ozone layer. With an aim to prevent the ecologic threat the Vienna Convention on protecting ozone layer was signed in 1985 with 147 countries around the world acting as cosignatories to the document.

In two years – on September 16, 1987 the Montreal Protocol on substances destroying ozone layer was signed. Henceforth this date is celebrated as a Day of protecting ozone layer on Earth. As a part of the event, Uzbekistan plans to expand cooperation in addressing this problem, harmonize relations between human and nature, support initiatives aimed at stabilizing ecologic situation.

The participants of the conference held at the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Protection of Nature spoke on such very issues. The representatives of state and public organizations, educational establishments, scholars and journalists took part at the conference.

Taking into account the urgency of this problem, its important role in human life and public development, in 1993 Uzbekistan joined the Vienna Convention on protecting ozone layer and Montreal Protocol on substances destroying ozone layer.

With an aim to accomplish the tasks envisaged by afore documents Uzbekistan elaborated respective national program. The country also implements related projects, as well as created legal and normative basis to support their full-fledged and guaranteed implementation. The country holds regular trainings of specialists in the sphere to raise their qualification.

The delegates to the conference also spoke on peculiarities of the legislation of Uzbekistan related to protecting ozone layer, on acting on international commitments, scientific researches on this problem, cooperation of public organizations and scientific establishments in this direction. They also exchanged views on the work ahead in protecting ozone layer.
