On the visit by the delegation of MFA of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Uzbekistan

On October 26-28 this year the delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Khalid bin Saud bin Khalid Al Saud visited Uzbekistan on a working visit.

The KSA delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Khalid bin Saud bin Khalid Al Saud was received by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Elyor Ganiev and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov.

During the talks the parties discussed issues of further development of bilateral relations in political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

"The historical, spiritual and cultural community of peoples of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia remains a reliable basis for building an effective model of mutually beneficial cooperation", said the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister.

The sides exchanged views on outstanding issues of international and regional politics of mutual interest. In particular, the issues of restoring peace and stability in Afghanistan, the situation in Kyrgyzstan and the Middle East, as well as the problems of reasonable use of water resources of transboundary rivers in Central Asia.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the KSA has supported the initiative of Uzbekistan to implement the multilateral project of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-Qatar transport corridor. In this, the sides noted that the reconciliation of transport links would help to develop economic cooperation between the countries.

The KSA delegation was provided with detailed information Uzbekistan’s the economic achievements during the years of Independence, the reforms being implemented under the leadership of President Islam Karimov, the Anti-crisis program, the tourist potential of Uzbekistan and attracting the Saudi investment companies to “Navoi” Free Industrial Economic Zone.

The parties noted that the current trade volume does not meet the existing potential of the two countries. They have also underscored that Uzbekistan and the KSA have great economic prospects, which should be developed and intensified. On this basis, the attention was paid to the need to further strengthen bilateral economic and investment cooperation by establishing a business council of the Uzbek and the Saudi business community, which would stir up economic and trade, investment cooperation, and help to increase mutual trade turnover between the countries.

Delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visited the International industrial fair and Cooperation stock organized at the Tashkent-based “Uzexpocenter” Exhibition Hall.

"There is a large-scale transformations in the real economy and feeling of full support of industry on the part the state, which should be a major factor in development of the Uzbek economy", Khalid bin Saud bin Khalid Al Saud has underscored.

According to the program of visit, the Saudi delegation also visited the Hazrati Imam Complex and have been to other places of sightseeing in the capital of Uzbekistan.

President of Uzbekistan receives Qatar Vice Prime Minister

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah at Oqsaroy residence on 26 October.

Welcoming the guest, the President noted that Uzbekistan and Qatar had a huge potential to develop bilateral cooperation.

Islam Karimov expressed his deep respect to the Emir of Qatar and gratitude for welcoming him to visit Qatar.

The President said Qatar’s example of efficient and rational use of natural resources and successful modernization of economy with use of innovative technologies deserved attention.

Vice Prime Minister of Qatar said his country was interested in expansion of all-round cooperation with Uzbekistan.

“His Majesty Emir of Qatar expresses high interest in strengthening ties with Uzbekistan. We are expecting your visit to our state and have many expectations of it,” Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah said.

The State of Qatar considers its relations with Uzbekistan among priority directions, highly evaluating the constructive character of Uzbekistan’s policy on the regional and international levels.

The mutual partnership covers areas like rated, investments, energy, IT, telecommunications and tourism. A recent Uzbekistan-Qatar business forum held in Doha identified prospective directions of bilateral cooperation.

The book of President Karimov “High spirituality is an invincible power” was published in Qatar in the Arabic language. Its presentation was held at Doha University.

During his recent official visit to Turkmenistan, the head of Uzbekistan highlighted the importance of developing of the prospective project of transport and communication corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-Qatar. The initiative, that would link the Central Asian region with the Gulf states, has already drawn big interest in many states.

Another area of interest for businesses of Qatar is the free industrial and economic zone Navoi in central Uzbekistan, which offers attractive investment opportunities.

During the talks, the sides also considered other topics representing mutual interest.
