ISLAM KARIMOV MEETS QABOOS BIN SAID

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived in Muscat, capital of Oman, with a state visit on October 4.

The official welcoming ceremony of the President of Uzbekistan was held at the Palace of the Sultan of Oman, National News Agency UzA reported.

The honorary guard was formed in the honor of the high guest. The state anthems of the two states were played.

The President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said passed the honorary guard.

At the meeting that followed the welcoming ceremony the leaders of Uzbekistan and Oman considered issues of development of bilateral relations and expansion of economic cooperation, as well as regional and international problems.

Islam Karimov said Uzbekistan highly valued the developing relations with Oman. He stressed that the meeting was a good opportunity to discuss issues that represent mutual interest.

Qaboos bin Said noted that the state visit of the head of Uzbekistan to Oman was a historic event and it signified a new stage in bilateral relations.

The sides expressed confidence that the reached agreements would serve to further development of cooperation between the two states.

The state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to the Sultanate of Oman is continuing.

“NAVOI” AIRPORT’S PROFIT HAS INCREASED TEN-TOLD AFTER PLACE UNDER “KOREAN AIR” MANAGEMENT

The number of flights at the “Navoi” international airport has increased for the last six month and reached to 433 against 133 of similar period in previous year. Freight volume, run via cargo terminal was enhanced accordingly from 15 to 3.337 ton. Airport profits has been raised ten-told and up to 5 million 810 thousand USD.

Airport capacity will be enlarged after accomplishing construction of large terminal, new aircrafts stop and supplementary warehouse for combustive-lubricating materials. Attendants’ educational qualification is being improved parallel with technical infrastructure modernization. In particular English teaching and “Boeing” aircrafts service courses have organized.

The optimization of freights refinement procedure aimed to increase immediacy of very process to be developed now. Latest information technologies introducing is projected. As expected, after implementing Uzbek-Korean joint plans the logistic center of international airport will meet to world standards.

At present time works on modernization project of Navoi international airport estimated at 63,1 million USD are being realized.

A NEW PLAYER IN THE INSURANCE MARKET

Standard Insurance got a license from the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the implementation of employers’ compulsory civil liability insurance.

This type of insurance is provided in accordance with the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On employer compulsory civil liability insurance”.

Standard Insurance was founded October 2008. Its 100% parent company is Credit-Standard Bank.

Statutory fund of the company as of September 1, 2009 amounted to ˆ1.5 million. For ensuring coverage of greater risks, Standard Insurance is attracting financial resources of foreign insurance companies, as well as major national insurers. In accordance with the development strategy, the company provides 16 types of general voluntary insurance. The license for additional types of general liability insurance provides the company with an opportunity to expand its activity and attract new strategic partners and customers.

UZBEKISTAN EXPANDS AIR ARTERIES

This year, Uzbekistan Airways launches a new cargo terminal at Navoi International Airport with a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo annually.

Every day, the terminal will service up to 300 tons of various cargoes. This facility is currently being constructed by Korean Air.

The new cargo terminal at the airport will raise and enhance freight and passenger traffic in Navoi airport. “Currently, Navoi airport serves 21 cargo flights a week. And next month, the number will increase approximately 1.5 times, said Dong-Su Lee, cargo business director at Central Asia regional office of Korean Air.

In 2004-2007, Navoi airport was reengineered and now is capable of dealing with all types of aircraft.

GM UZBEKISTAN DEMONSTRATES GROWTH IN PRODUCTION

Manufacture of cars at GM Uzbekistan in January-August 2009 increased by 5.5% compared to the same period in 2008 and amounted to 126,506 units.

According to State Statistics Committee, output of Nexia cars for eight months amounted to 55,189 units (-6.8%); 42,598 units of Matiz (-1%); 15,485 units of Damas (+3.3%).

During the same period the factory assembled 11,797 Lacetti cars (batch production started in November, 2008), 724 Epica and 713 Captiva.

In 2008, the production of cars at GM Uzbekistan increased by 13.5% to reach 195,038 vehicles compared with the previous year.

In particular, last year the Asaka automobile plant produced 95,027 Nexia cars, 70,144 Matiz, 24,510 Damas, 1,389 Lacetti, 1,892 Captiva, 2,061 Epica and 15 Tacuma.

HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS OF FARG’ONA REGION

Three universities as well as branches of Tashkent Medical Academy and Tashkent University for Information Technologies operate in Farg’ona region these days.

Farg’ona State University. Nowadays this university trains specialists in 29 undergraduate and 16 graduate directions. It is still oriented basically to training of pedagogical cadres due to the booming development of professional colleges and academic lyceums’ network in the region. Besides, currently they train agriculture economists, agricultural chemistry specialists, sociologists and social workers. The number of scientific schools also increased over the last years as well. Science about the healthy life style and psychological linguistics dealing with issues of the impact of speech on the listeners’ psychology develops there along with physics and mathematics.

Qo’qon State Pedagogical Institute. This institution is basically oriented to training compulsory school teachers and it is the only specialized pedagogical institute in Farg’ona Valley. Currently about 8 thousand undergraduate and magistracy students study there in eight departments: physics-mathematics, history, philology, pedagogy, chemistry-biology and special part-time department. The major focus is on training the future teachers to the foremost pedagogical technologies. With this purpose the teaching staff is constantly searching for the best pedagogical experience, particularly during their advanced training. 12 teachers underwent the refresher training within the Iste’dod Fund line as well as 13 students were trained in foreign universities over the last three years.

Farg’ona Polytechnic Institute (FPI). It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2007 as one of the major technical universities in Uzbekistan. It is known for its academic schools. Almost all technological installations of the institute are computer operated today thanks to the efforts of teachers and goal-minded students. Thanks to the considerable contribution into development of the science on automation of production technological lines the institute was acknowledged as the basic one in teaching methodology on instrument making. FPI is also considerably contributing to the search of possibilities of using the renewable energy sources, particularly sun and wind, in the everyday life and industry. There are promising products directed to raising the fertility of saline soils. The institute is also dealing with philosophy and issues of foundation reinforcement at building on heavily saline land. The solid academic base allows training specialists with certain idea of future technologies.

Branches. These are the youngest institutions in the Farg’ona higher education system which was established in 2005 to meet the region’s need for medical personnel and information-communication technologies’ specialists. The branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy focuses on training of general practitioners and specialists for preventive medicine development. The branch of the Tashkent University for Information Technologies that has moved to the new building and expanded this year, trains specialists in computer technologies and telecommunications.

MATURING THE CHILDREN’S ENDOVISUAL SURGERY SERVICE

The Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan implements a set of measures to promote endovisual pediatric surgery in the regions.

All surgeries that are carried out currently at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Low-invasive and Endovisual Pediatric Surgery (Pediatric Surgery Center) will be conducted in all regional diversified pediatric centers. In the near future they all will be equipped with necessary equipment, and preparation of specialists is now underway. In particular, a scientific and practical seminar with the participation of foreign experts was held in the Pediatric Surgery Center for physicians from the regions.

This is our first step in training of specialists on low-invasive surgery for regional pediatric centers,” says Shavkat Salimov, director of the Pediatric Surgery Center, chief pediatric surgeon of the Ministry of Healthcare. “During the seminar, we tried to tune the surgeons who work by traditional methods to mastering of advanced endovisual technologies that allow them to conduct various surgeries with the child not sensing it. And we will introduce them to regional physicians in more detail as part of special courses offered at our center from October 1, this year.

Also at the seminar, we managed to familiarize physicians with the latest equipment for endovisual surgeries. It was possible thanks to the support of the German manufacturer of this equipment - Karl Storz Full HD Company.

On the second day of the seminar exchange of experience was arranged between the Pediatric Surgery Center with colleagues from the pediatric faculty of Moscow Stomatological Institute. Uzbek physicians were interested in conducting surgeries in large intestine, and Russian specialists inquired into developments of Tashkent colleagues for endovisual surgeries on lungs.
