PRESIDENT LEAVES FOR DUSHANBE TO TAKE PART AT SCO SUMMIT

On August 27 this year the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov departed for a capital of the Republic of Tajikistan Dushanbe to participate at the meeting of Council of heads of member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, according to the Jahon Information Agency.

The issues related to the current state and prospects of multilateral cooperation in the SCO framework are expected to be discussed at the Summit in Dushanbe, according to the report.

HEAD OF UZBEKISTAN AND KOREAN AIR CHIEF DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PROJECTS

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received chairman of Korean Air Cho Yangho at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on August 27, UzA reported.

Welcoming the guest, Uzbek leader said that the relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea are developing gradually in all spheres and today's meeting is another evidence for that.

In his turn, Cho Yangho expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for frank receipt and said the Korean Air is interested in expansion of cooperation with Uzbekistan.

The sides exchanged opinion on further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan Havo Yollari (Uzbekistan Airways) and Korea Air, development and implementation of new joint projects.

It should be noted that during the visit of the chairman of Korean Air Cho Yangho to Uzbekistan, the two airlines signed a formal deal on creation of the Regional Logistic Center at Navoi Airport.

As earlier reported, Korean Air launched today a cargo flight from Seoul to Navoi and further to Milan. Next week, the Korean airline plans to launch passenger flight from Seoul to Tashkent.

PRESIDENT SIGNS DECREE ON AWARDING OLYMPIC WINNERS

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a decree on August 25 on awarding the winners of the Beijing Olympic games and their coaches.

According to the document, silver medal winner Abdulla Tangriyev and bronze medal winner Yekaterina Khilko have been awarded with the title Uzbekiston Iftihori (Pride of Uzbekistan).

Boris Grigoryev, Shuhrat Mamadaliyev, Vladimir Pyatayev and Yelena Fedorenchik received titles Honored Coach of Uzbekistan.

Bronze medal winners Rishod Sobirov and Anton Fokin, silver winner Soslan Tigiyev, as well as Olympiad participant Vadim Menkov received titles Honored Sportsman of Uzbekistan.

Gold winner Artur Taymazov has been awarded with the order Buyuk Khizmatlari Uchun (For Great Achievements).

Uzbek Olympic team doctor Yelena Abayeva, as well as coaches Nurlan Jaksilikov and Andrey Shturbabin received orders Mehnat Shuhrati.

Coaches Dilshod Mansurov and Mirali Sharipov have been awarded with the medal Shuhrat.

LEGISLATIVE CHAMBER CONSIDERS STATE BUDGET, AMENDMENT TO LAW

Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a session on August 26, UzA said. The speaker of the chamber Dilorom Tashmuhamedova chaired the session.

The MPs considered execution of the State Budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the first half of 2008. Deputy Finance Minister Mr Mirzaev presented a report on the issue.

During the discussion, MPs underlined that the budget was implemented with surplus and the economy of the country grew compared to previous year. The economic growth helped to boost investments and modernization of capacities.

The report said the economic growth drove internal demand, including to consumer goods, due to increase of real incomes of population.

MPs approved the report on execution of the State Budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the first half of 2008 and approved corresponding resolution.

The parliamentarians also considered a Law "On introduction of changes and amendments to the Law of Uzbekistan "On guarantees of the activity of the non-governmental and non commercial organizations".

The changes and amendments to the law is connected with the creation of Public Fund on Support of the NGOs and other civil society institutes under the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Parliamentarian Commission on management of resources of the Public Fund.

The law was passed with some recommendations and it will be sent to Senate for approval, the report said.

SHARE OF SMALL BUSINESSES IN GDP ON RISE IN THE NATION

The attention now paid in Uzbekistan to developing private sector and comprehensively supporting private entrepreneurship bears its positive results. The growth of share of small and private businesses in the nation’s GDP each year is a testimony to this.

At the moment, around 28 thousand business people effectively work in various branches of economy, in particular, in the sphere of services in Khorezm Province.

“With an aim to render quality services to population last year we have established small enterprise “Yuldosh-Otajon,” businessman Shokir Otajanov from Shavat District said. “At the moment, 10 busses, 28 mini-busses and 16 cars along nearly 10 routes serve the local people. All drivers have special licenses. Every day the drivers pass through medical examination and transports – technical examination. About 70 people work at our enterprise.”

Besides, a bakery where 1.5 tons bread is produced per month operates at the enterprise. Shokir Otajanov is going to expand his business. Soon he will launch petrol and technical servicing stations. As a result, 20 local people are expected to be employed.

"EXPO.UZ 08" OPENS IN TASHKENT TO DISPLAY UZBEKISTAN'S ACHIEVEMENTS

Four-day exhibition of goods and services of the Uzbek producers "EXPO.UZ 08" (earlier known as "Made in Uzbekistan") opened at UzExpoCenter in Tashkent on 26 August.

This year, the name of the exhibition was changed and it reflects new concept of the exhibition. It is expected that the exhibition will be more saturated, bright and festive. The exhibitors present new developments, products and services, quality of which meet international standards and highly demanded in foreign markets.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan, the exhibition demonstrates creative processes in Uzbekistan. It added that the strengthening of export potential and competitiveness of national economy helps to produce high-quality and demanded products.

As a proof to the statement, the ministry said that the export of Uzbekistan grew by 48.2% year-on-year to US$6.12 billion in the first half of Uzbekistan. Current trade balance surplus made up US$2.4 billion.

The exhibition presents newly produced goods and services of Uzbekistan in various spheres of the economy, including machinery and aircraft production, agriculture machinery, industrial and electricity goods, consumer goods and others.

The peculiarity of this year exhibition is the increased number of small, medium and private businesses. It is expected that the exhibition will help these businesses to conclude contracts with foreign partners to export their products.

Local fruit and vegetable producers present their products at the exhibition. It is planned that the flowers exhibition will take place at the exposition.

GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek car maker, demonstrate all it cars, including Lacetti, Nexia and Nexia-2, Matiz, Damas, Captiva, Epica, Tacuma. The visitors have an opportunity to drive these cars.

Enterprises like SamAvto, Roison, Sino, Tashkent Aircraft Production Plant named after Chkalov, Uzcabel, Andijancable, Alutex, Muruvat–tex and other display their new products.

SSP-EXPOCONTACT LLC TO ORGANIZE EXHIBITION "ADVERTISEMENT INDUSTRY"

SSP-Expocontact LLC at official support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan will hold the first international exhibition "Advertisement Industry" on November 19-21, Uzreport Business Information Portal reported.

The exhibition, which will take place at Intercontinental Hotel in Tashkent, is directed to promote local market of advertisement, polygraph and design, as well as original advertisement technologies, materials and design solutions.

"INDUSTRIAL GOODS, EQUIPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY" EXHIBITION TO BE HELD IN OCTOBER

SSP-Expocontact of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan will organize the first international exhibition "Industrial Goods, Equipment and Technology" at Intercontinental Hotel on 25-28 October.

The exhibition is organized at the support of the Economy Ministry of Uzbekistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The exhibition aimed at displaying perspective trends and modern equipment in all spheres of industry and innovative products, improving competitiveness of products, manufactured in Uzbekistan, establishing new business contacts and others.

The exposition will have such themes as equipment, technology and materials, machinery, innovative products, packing equipment, security equipment, mini technologies, industrial goods, consumer products and others.

YOUNG JOURNALISTS OF INDEPENDENCE: YOUTH LIFE ON AIR

The 3rd International "Young Journalists of Independence: Youth Life on Air" Media Forum was held on 21 August at the Dedeman Silk Road Hotel.

This media forum was an extension of the training seminar for young journalists conducted on 16-20 August in the cities of Bukhara, Samarkand, and Tashkent on the initiative of the Kelajak Ovozi, National Agency of Electronic Media with the assistance of the UNFPA Uzbekistan within the frames of the Year of Youth State Programme.

The training seminar included both theoretical and practical sessions, as well as experience sharing with youth television studios. The opening of several studios for youth films was conducted as a part of the event. Participants were taken on an excursion to the historical monuments, and structures built over the years of independence. It is worth noting that young journalists used this opportunity to shoot their examination projects, which became the final products of the training. Also, on the occasion of the 2,200th anniversary of the city of Tashkent, a special tour round the "Independence" objects of the Uzbek capital was organised within the frames of the training seminar.

At the media forum conducted together with the heads of regional television stations, the representatives of youth studios and members of the National Association of Electronic Media Information Centre, the results of the youth studio's activity in the first half of this year were summed up. During the forum a film telling about the course of the implementation of the "creation and development of youth studios" project was demonstrated. In addition to this, participants also discussed the role of the nongovernmental television and radio stations in implementation of the "Year of Youth" State Programme, the prospects of cooperation between the youth studios and regional television stations, and the plans of the studios for September-December this year.

Also a representative of the UNFPA spoke to the participants about the Fund's projects on promotion of healthy lifestyle among the youth of Uzbekistan.

The results of the contests devoted to the Independence Day were summed up at the forum. Also, the results of the "Mustakillik – Eng Ulug Nemat" Contest announced by the National Association of Electronic Media, the Creative Union of Journalists and the Republican Centre for the Promotion of Spirituality were announced. At the end of the day a roundtable meeting of the directors of regional television stations was conducted.

NATION’S CRAFTSMEN PRESENT WORKS AT EXHIBITION IN TASHKENT

A trade exhibition of goods of people’s handicraftsmen was held in Tashkent, the agencies reported.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the National Uzbekturizm Company and Hunarmand Association organized the exhibition dedicated to the 17th anniversary of nation’s Independence. The Uzbek handicraftsmen are reported to have presented their works at the exhibition.

Those who spoke at the opening ceremony of exhibition said that Uzbekistan pays a particular attention to restoring and preserving ancient traditions and values, developing national craftsmanship and people’s applied art.

These peculiarities are especially brightly unveiled in tangible works on restoring the traditions of Master and apprentice, forgotten styles and directions of national craftsmanship and people’s applied art, comprehensively supporting and promoting masters and handicraftsmen. At the moment, the members of Hunarmand Association account for 16.000 masters.

“The organization of this exhibition on the eve of Independence Day celebrations is yet another practical manifestation of care about national values, handcraftsmanship,” jeweler from Marghilan Abdukhamid Abdujabbarov said.

The sample works by national masters in such directions as jewelry, wood engraving, carpet weaving, embroidery and embroider in gold are exhibited at the event.
