BEIJING MEETINGS OF ISLAM KARIMOV

On August 8th, with invitation of the Chairman of Peoples Republic of China Hu Jintao, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Beijing and participated in the opening ceremony of XXIX Summer Olympic Games, UzA reported.

On August 9, Islam Karimov met with the chairman of Peoples Republic of China Hu Jintao. The head of our state said that Uzbekistan highly appreciates current development of bilateral relations.

Naming Islam Karimov as his friend, Hu Jintao expressed gratitude for the support by Uzbekistan of China in political and humanitarian spheres.

Two sides discussed bilateral relations and issues of regional and international politics.

The same day President Islam Karimov met with the President of Republic of Korea Lee Myung Bak.

The President of Uzbekistan said that Uzbek-Korean relations are consistently developing.

The President of Korea said that his country pays special attention to the cooperation with Uzbekistan.

In the course of conversation the sides talked about the further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea.

UZNEFTMAHSULOT OPENS OVER 1,300 FUEL SUPPLY POINTS

Uzneftmahsulot joint-stock company opened over 1,300 fuel supply points to provide fuel and lubricant products to farmers of Uzbekistan, UzA reported. The report said over 222,00 farms were created in the result of wide-scale reforms in Uzbekistan.

The agency said Uzneftmahsulot has two large oil processing plants and several petroleum storage depots. They process oil and supply oil products to enterprises and consumers.

MUBAREK PLANT PROCESSES 380BN CUBIC METERS OF GAS

Mubarek Gas Processing Plant has processed over 380 billion cubic meters of natural gas since its launch, Uktam Umarov director of the plant told UzA.

The report said that in early 90s, Uzbekistan annually imported 6-7 million tonnes of oil and gas. The reforms of oil and gas sector allowed to curb imports and ensure satisfaction of internal market and export part of the products.

The report said that the modernization of equipment and technology allowed Mubarek Gas Processing Plant to produce additional 270,000 tonnes of liquefied gas and 40 tonnes of gas condensate.

It added that the construction of the seventh line of gas processing system is underway. After the launch of the line, the capacity of the plant will reach 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

It is expected that the plant will process 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2008 and the figure will reach 8.3 billion cubic meters by 2010.

UZBEK WINE PRODUCER INVITED TO WORLD WINE FESTIVAL

Moscow will host World Wine Festival on 5-7 December 2008. The event is organized by Agriculture Ministry of Russian in cooperation with the Moscow administration and Wine-growers and Wine-producers Union of Russia.

The event is aimed at revival of wine consumption culture, presentation of the best types of wine of Russia and foreign countries, Uzreport Business Information Portal reported.

The festival includes wine tasting competitions, meeting and consultations of wine producers, the organizers said.

The organizers invited wine producers of Uzbekistan to attended the fair as one of the countries with rich wine production traditions, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan said.

KARSHI HOSTS TRAINING ON USE OF ICT IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

A training course "Application of ICT in the public administration" has been held in Karshi city, center of Kashkadarya region.

The training course was organized by the Communication and Information Agency of Uzbekistan and UNDP ICTP project "Assisting the government of Uzbekistan in the formulation and implementation of ICT for development policy".

The purpose of this course was to improve skills of the public servants on effective use of the information and communication technologies.

During the training course, the participants discussed issues on automated management systems, legislation and lega acts, adopted to regulate ICT sector and directed to formation and introduction of e-government services, e-document flow and information security.

KASHKADARYA PROVINCE LAUNCHES ONLINE DIAGNOSTICS CENTER

Kashkadarya Province Diagnostics Center enjoyed an opportunity to hold remote diagnostics with the help of Internet technologies.

The tools equipped there allow to specialists at the Center to contact with any medical establishments of the world, hold video conferencing and receive consultations from the world’s famous scholars.

“Despite the fact that our establishment has a province status, people from many regions come to us for medical aid and consultations,” Khasan Sayfiev, senior doctor of the Center, said. Sometimes, we receive patients with neglected diseases and consequences of wrong treatment. But the doctors at the Center try to save their lives. 88 doctors of high and first category, three candidates of medical sciences work at the Center,” he added.

“Thanks to reforms now underway in Uzbekistan in healthcare the staff members of our Center can diagnose all types of effective deceases, define individual sensitiveness of every patient to one or another medicines,” doctor of the Center Sherboy Sherov said. “We established direct contacts with the best world medical establishments. Our doctors regularly raise their skills in Russia, Ukraine, Japan, Republic of Korea,” he further said.

REPORT: WOMEN LEADERSHIP CLUB FOUNDED IN JIZZAKH PROVINCE

Club for women-leaders opened at the Women’s Committee in Jizzakh Province, Jahon Information Agency reported.

Under the leadership of President a special attention is now paid to raising the status of women in family and society. A considerable work is now underway to promote employment and social activity of women, protect their rights and interests. Such work proves to be effective.

The Decree of President of Uzbekistan of May 25, 2004 “On additional measures to support activity of Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan” is an important guideline in this direction.

Last year above 11 thousand women were employed in Jizzakh Province. This year the officials expect the growth of such indicator. The number of women-leaders at state establishments, non-state organizations and private sector is now on the rise.

“The goal of the Club is to establish real and perspective trained reserve of female cadres who work at state and non-state organizations with their talents of leadership,” the Deputy Khokim (Governor) of the Jizzakh Province, Chairwoman of the Regional Women’s Committee Shakhlo Akhrorova said, “the members of the Club enjoy all conditions in terms of upgrading their leadership skills, qualification, knowledge, including the modern technologies of management. The groups of social, economic, spiritual, enlightenment and legal propaganda are also founded in the Club.”

UZBEKISTAN SOLEMNLY MARKS BUILDERS DAY, REPORT SAYS

On the eve of commemoration of Independence Day in Uzbekistan – due September 1 – the nation broadly marks the Builders Day. It has become a kind tradition in Uzbekistan to commission by the date of independence celebrations the new facilities, grandiose buildings, industries, educational and healthcare establishments, as well as spiritual and enlightenment institutions.

Last week a solemn meeting dedicated to the professional holiday of builders took place at the Turkiston Palace in Tashkent. The builders, architects, engineers, heads of construction companies, institutions on betterment and repair works, as well as the project science and research institutes participated at the meeting, according to the Uzbekistan National News Agency.

At the festive meeting the Khokim (Mayor) of the city of Tashkent Abdukakhkhor Tukhtaev said that Uzbekistan pays a particular attention to building, betterment and improvement works and reforms aimed at further development of country, raising the people’s well being, as much as harmonic upbringing of young generation.

At today’s constructions nationwide one may observe the harmonic combination of traditions of national town-building and architecture, as well as modern architectural and construction technologies. In this, a big attention is paid to firmness and safety of newly built facilities and their ecological perfection.

The best example of the aforesaid is a bettering architectural image of the nation’s capital of Tashkent. In line with the Decree of President of Uzbekistan of April 2, 2008 “On preparation and holding of the 2200th jubilee of the city of Tashkent”, a large-scale betterment, improvement and construction work is now underway in the city.

The available ancient monuments are being restored with involvement of high-skilled masters. It is also noteworthy that the restoration of facilities of historical and cultural significance is being held in line with their original look as well as set architectural norms.

To implement the tasks set in the Year of Youth State program the new schools, colleges and lyceums, children’s creativity centers, houses, youth parks, beautiful alleys, sporting, recreational and medical facilities are being built and commissioned in Tashkent.

AS BEIJING OLYMPICS BEGIN, UZBEKS START SECURING MEDALS

The results that the Uzbek athletes are achieving at the XXIX Summer Olympics in Beijing are worth attention of sports fans and specialists enjoy. The successes of the Uzbek judo wrestlers are especially worth noting, the agencies reported.

Mirali Sharipov aroused enthusiasm of judo fans with his excellent physical training and high mastery. A 21-year-old athlete of Uzbekistan who secured the third place at the Asian Championship in South Korea, at the Beijing contests won victories over Oscar Penas of Spain, Munir Benamad of Algeria, Arash Mir-Ismaili of Iran, and Ahin al-Hodi of Egypt.

The Uzbek boxers are well competing in Beijing Olympics. A world champion among juniors Elshod Rasulov held his first fight at the Games against Jean Michel Raymond and beat him with a score 8:2.

A skilled boxer Dilshod Makhmudov stood against Moroccan Mehdi Halsi, his first rival at the Olympics. Mehdi failed to place resistance against the world champion among servicemen, and the fight ended with victory of Dilshod Makhmudov of Uzbekistan.

Foreign specialists and fans of sports of the Olympics highly assess the opportunities of the Uzbek athletes.

“Uzbekistan is a country which is rapidly developing its sports. At the moment, it is recognized worldwide”, Ali Ahmad Salim, the skilled archer, member of Olympics team of Qatar has said. “I got firmly convinced about this when I witnessed splendid victories secured by the Uzbek athletes at the XV Asian Games at the capital of Qatar of Doha in 2006. The Uzbek boxers, judo, free-style and Greco-roman wrestlers, track and field athletes, footballers are one of the strongest not only in the continent but also in the world.”

The high results of the Uzbek athletes at the Beijing Olympics confirm it once again. Such results can be secured only by the athletes of the nation which pays a big attention to the development of sports, and especially, of the children’s sports, and which pays a constant attention to the athletes.

On the third day of Olympics – on August 11 the winner of Asian Games, the bronze medal securer of Athena Olympics, boxer Bakhodir Sultanov stepped up to next stage of the contest gaining the upper hand over Indian Lalit Lakra.

IN BEIJING UZBEK BOXERS MOVE ON TO A NEXT STAGE

The Uzbek boxers are upholding the hopes of fans and experts at the XXIX Summer Olympic Games which are now continuing in Beijing, Jahon Information Agency reported.

On the fourth day of contests the two of the Uzbek athletes moved on to a next stage of Olympics. Thus, Tulashboy Doniyorov beat Kenyan Bernard Iroungu in 51-kg-weight category with a score 10 to 1.

“Uzbekistan is one of the strongest nations around the world in sports”, Bernard Iroungu has said. “I have heretofore faced Tulashboy on the ring. This time he used new tactics and demonstrated his high mastery and good training.”

Another Uzbek athlete, a 19-year-old Khurshid Tojiboev, held his first fight in a 54-kg-weight category during which he beat a 33-year-old Rustamkhoja Rakhimov of Germany. The German boxer – winner of the Athens Olympics – could not stand against brusque, quick and powerful punches of the Uzbek boxer. On the outcomes of fight the score remained at 11 to 2 in favor of Uzbek puncher.

“The Uzbek national team is made of many young athletes. It is the result of a profound attention paid by President Islam Karimov to upbringing physically and spiritually mature young generation,” Khurshid Tojiboev said. “To uphold the honor of Homeland on international contests is our filial duty. We always feel support of our President and the entire nation.”

On August 12 another Uzbek Olympic contender – the world champion Dilshod Oripov won a victory over Davor Stepanek of Serbia at the contests of Greco-Roman style wrestling with a score 3 to 1.
