TASHKENT TALKS FOCUS ON UZBEK AIRWAYS JOINING SKY TEAM
The first round of talks between the National Air Company of Uzbekistan and the delegation of world Air Alliance Sky Team was held in Tashkent. The sides discussed joining of National Air Company of Uzbekistan as an associated member of the Alliance, Jahon Information Agency quoting the Pravda Vostoka newspaper.
Sky Team is the second largest airline Alliance in the world with 11 full-fledged and three associated members. Sky Team was established in 2000 by four companies - Korean Air, Air France, Delta Airlines and Aeromexico.
For over the last years Czech Airlines, Alitalia, China Southern Airlines, Continental Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Aeroflot became full-fledged members of the Alliance.
In September 2007 the Sky Team announced on entry into Alliance of the first associated members – Air Europa, Panamas Copa Airlines and Kenya Airways. Two more associated members – Middle East Airlines and Romanian Tarom are expected to join the Alliance soon.
In late 2007 the Korean Air proposed to accept the National Air Company Uzbekistan Airways for Sky Team’s associated membership. In February 2008 Korean Air signed a preliminary deal with Uzbekistan Airways for further cooperation that includes sponsoring a bid for the airline to potentially join SkyTeam as an associate member. In May 2008 the Alliance approved such initiative at the Alliance’s board of directors meeting.
At the talks the chairman of Managing Committee of the Alliance, Vice-President of Air France Dominique Patri noted that Sky Team was the leader in the sphere of developing global air communication. The strife of National Air Company of Uzbekistan to join the Alliance creates additional opportunities to the Uzbek passengers. They will able to use a broad network of routes and comfortable connection flights proposed by partner air companies.
GREEK, UZBEK COMMERCE CHAMBERS SIGN COOPERATION MEMORANDUM
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and Central Association of Commerce Chambers of Greece signed a memorandum of cooperation in Tashkent on July 30. The document is aimed at stimulation, development and realization of cooperation in economy, trade, new technologies and culture in the Mediterranean, Asia and worldwide, Uzreport Business Information Portal reported.
Signing the document, Uzbek chamber joined to the memorandum of cooperation, inked earlier among Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Messina, Olive Roads cultural organization and Central Association of Commerce Chambers of Greece.
The sides acknowledged need to expand cooperation and support initiatives in strengthening of business and trade relations, bilateral, regional and multilateral collaboration, intercultural exchanges, transfer of technologies, promotion of innovative projects, attraction of resources and others.
FOUR NEW CREDIT UNIONS REGISTERED, SAYS CBU
Central Bank of Uzbekistan registered four new credit unions in Andijan and Ferghana regions, a press release of the bank said on August 1.
It added that the credit unions were registered in line with article 17 of the Law "On the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan" and article 4 of the Law "On credit unions".
Two of newly registered credit unions will be operating in Andijan region. The bank issued the license to Buyuk Turon Invest (Kurgantepa city) and Orzu Invest (Andijan city). The charter capital of the unions are 32.6 million soums and 35 million soums respectively.
Uchar oq tulpor (Buvayda district) and Zamondosh (Ferghana city) are located in Ferghana region and their authorized capital is 33 million soums and 32.5 million soums respectively.
The credit unions will directed their efforts to finance business projects of the members and render leasing services, the Central Bank's release said.
EKARMON LAUNCHES FIRST INTERNET SHOPS
eKarmon Group launched first internet shops within its campaign to develop e-commerce market in Uzbekistan. The company said it launched five new website for their customers, where people can make online shopping.
The company started the campaign to help website owners to sell their products with use of eKarmon payment system. Currentlty, five websites were launched and their sell home appliances and electronics.
eKarmon was founded in 2008 and offers online payment system to carry out transactions in local currency, soums. The system was approved by the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a pilot project in line with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 120 dated 12 June 2007 "On measures for further improvement of payment transactions in e-Commerce".

NAMANGAN HOSTS ROUNDTABLE ON HUMAN RIGHTS DECLARATION
The events, meetings, roundtables on implementation of the Decree of President of Uzbekistan “On the Action Program dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of Adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” are going on at the local levels, Jahon Information Agency reported.
Authorized of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights, the Ombudsman, and Regional office of the German Conrad Adenauer Fund on Central Asia held meeting in Namangan on cooperation of Ombudsman and law-enforcement bodies in implementing the Habeas Corpus Act mechanisms in Uzbekistan.
Specialists, heads of relevant establishments and organizations, representatives of law-enforcement bodies and mass media took part at the event.
Uzbekistan observes international legal norms on providing for rights and interests of citizens. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the first international legal document that Uzbekistan joined after obtaining independence.
Uzbekistan which traverses along the path of building democratic law-governed state, and strong civil society defined the protection of human rights and interests as a priority direction of developing the society, state structure, both domestic and foreign policy of the country.
The decrees of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on abolishing the death penalty and delegating to courts the right to issue an arrest warrant once again witness about that legislation of Uzbekistan is based on national and universal values, principles of humanism and magnanimity.
During the discussion and practical training the delegates to the roundtable got responds to the questions of their concern.
UZBEK OLYMPIC CONTENDERS LEAVE FOR BEIJING, VOW TO RETURN VICTORIOUS
On August 2 the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan which will participate at the XXIX Summer Olympics in Beijing laid wreath to the Independence and Humanism Monument at the nation’s main square in Tashkent, according to the Jahon Information Agency.
“It is a big happiness for us to defend the honor of Uzbekistan at the Olympics,” the prizewinner of Athens Olympics boxer Bakhodir Sultanov said. “While we laid wreath to the Independence and Humanism Monument we promised to ourselves to return from the Beijing Olympics victorious since we are supported by our nation as much as President.”
The athletes, coaches, public and mass media are reported to have participated at the solemn ceremony at the Museum of Olympic Glory in Tashkent held on the occasion of departure of Uzbek delegation to China’s capital.
Those who spoke at the ceremony have said that thanks to constant care and attention on the part of the Uzbek Leader to the development and popularization of sports in the country the Uzbek sports people secure successes at the world sports arenas.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev congratulated the athletes on their participation at the XXIX Summer Olympics and wished them further victories.
58 Uzbek Olympic contenders on 15 types of sports: the Greco-Roman and free-style wrestling, judo, taekwon-do (WTF), heavy athletics, sports gymnastics, kayak and canoe paddling, spring-boarding, cycle racing, swimming, boat racing, light athletics and tennis are going to defend Homeland’s honor in Beijing.
Here in the country, according to the reports, the Uzbek athletes enjoyed all conditions to well prepare to the 2008 Olympics. During more than one hundred team practice sessions they held physical, tactical and technical preparations.
Among the Uzbek Olympic contenders are those athletes who have secured top prizes at the previous Games in Athens and other world championships: Arthur Taymazov and Dilshod Mansurov on freestyle wrestling, Abbas Atoev, Bakhodir Sultanov and Dilshod Makhmudov on boxing, champion of Asia Games and Asia on judo Vadim Menkov, judo champion of Asia Abdulla Tangriev, the world tournament winner on high jump Svetlana Radzivil, as well as one of the strongest race sprinters of Asia Guzal Khubbieva.
Taking a floor at the event Asia champion on judo Abdulla Tangriev, the winner of Asia Games on Taekwon-do (WTF) Eugene Karimova and others thanked President for the care and attention paid to development of sports and comprehensive promotion of sportsmen in Uzbekistan. They have assured the nation’s Leadership that they would worthily uphold the honor of Uzbekistan at the Beijing Olympics.
The Chairman of Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilgizar Sobirov, Speaker of Legislative Chamber Diloram Tashmukhamedova, State Advisor to President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Khayriddin Sultanov and Khokim (Mayor) of the city of Tashkent Abdukakhkhor Tukhtaev are reported to have participated at the ceremony in Tashkent.
18 NEW LYCEUMS & COLLEGES TO BE LAUNCHED IN SAMARKAND
On the eve of 17th anniversary of Independence a number of new constructions, cultural, enlightenment and educational establishments are being built in Samarkand Province, the Uzbekistan National News Agency reported.
The academic lyceum ¹9 was put into operation at the Sartepa District. It has modern computer and language laboratory classes, subject teaching classes, sports and school assembly halls.
“This year 390 students will attend our academic lyceum on the majors of social-humanitarian, exact and natural sciences, as well as foreign languages,” director of the academic lyceum Rustam Yuldashev said. “At the moment, the lyceum is considering the applications of prospective students – the high school graduates. The teaching faculty was chosen by contest.”
Another educational establishment – the College of Law for 900 students was launched in the same area.
This year 18 new colleges and academic lyceums will be commissioned in Samarkand beginning September. In total, there will be 148 such educational institutions in the province.
ENVIRONMENT MOVEMENT OF UZBEKISTAN FOUNDED
A constituent conference of Environment Movement of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent on August 2. The main issue of the agenda was creation of the Environment Movement in the country.
Representatives of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, all regions and Tashkent city participated in the event. The participants adopted decision on establishment of Environment Movement of Uzbekistan and elected members of its bodies.
Speakers at the conference noted that the Environment Movement in Uzbekistan should focus on uniting members of society and citizens of independent Uzbekistan, supporting the idea of protecting the environment and human health, actively involved in enforcement of state and regional environment programmes, etc.
The movement, acting on the basis of the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan, should strive to mobilize resources of the state, society and people to deepen socio-political and socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan, and ensure right of future generation to live in sustainable environment.
Newly created movement selected slogan "Healthy Environment – Healthy Human" and to implement it, it will focus on attraction of the society to protection of environment and improvement of ecological situation in the country, improvement and further development of legislation on environment protection and establish control over its enforcement in places, etc.
During the meeting, Aslan Mavlyanov, director of institute of hydrology and engineering geology under State Committee of Geology of Uzbekistan, was elected as the heads of the movement.
