POLICY
LEGISLATIVE CHAMBER PASSES SEVERAL LAWS
The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed a number of laws on its session held on August 12.
The first law the deputies approved was the law on introducing changes in the Law on Medicaments and Pharmaceutical Activity. The document was developed with the aim to strengthen fight against sale of falsified, illegal and bad-quality medicines, National News Agency UzA reported.
According to law enforcement agencies, the amount of falsified medicaments has been increasing in the recent years, with virtually all popular local and foreign medicines being falsified.
Another law envisages introduction of changes in the Law on the Guarantees of the Rights of the Child. It was developed in connection with ratification by Uzbekistan of the ILO convention on the minimum age for hired employment.
The international convention states that the minimum age for hired jobs should not be lower that the age of completion of the obligatory school education, which is 15.
The lower chamber of the parliament also approved in the first reading the changes to the legal acts of Uzbekistan in connection with deepening reforms in agriculture and water management.
The changes proposed are aimed at optimization of the farmer’s land slots, improvement of the water resources use and introduction of the water saving technologies.
The deputies passed the Law on Court Expertise, developed in order to create a single normative act defining the bases of court expertise in the country.
The law on introducing changes in article 6 of the Law on Cabinet of Ministers was developed with the purpose of improvement of the selection and appointment of the managing personnel.
The chamber also ratified the Agreement between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan on transfer of persons sentenced to imprisonment for further serving the one’s sentence, signed on 25 February 2009.

MORE ORDERS FOR PRODUCTS OF JSC «ZILOLATEKS»
In accordance with the Decree of the President on 28 November 2008 «On the Program of measures to support the real sector of the economy, ensure stable operation and increase the export potential» JSC «Zilolateks» of Jizzak city is working to increase production, improve product quality.
As part of Anti-crisis measures, the company successfully went through the modernization. In the first phase through the provision of bank credit from South Korea there were purchased modern sewing machines, created 30 new jobs. Knitwear for them amount of 250 million sums were supplied to the customers.
In the second phase, the enterprise will acquire sewing machines worth 400 thousand U.S. dollars. This will help increase production volumes to 600 million sums, and provide work to more than 200 people.
- Product of our company is in great demand, and we have more and more orders – said economist of company Gulnora Husanova. – Particularly, there is high demand for our sportswear. Modernization of production plays an important role in improving the quality and competitiveness of products.
NEW COMPANY OF KARMANA
A joint Uzbek-Canadian company «Karmanagips mahsulotlari» specialized in the production of plasterboard started the operations in Karmana districts of Navoi region.
- Demand for plasterboard is growing – the director of the joint venture Isomiddin Safarov said.
- In this regard, we seek to increase production. Our company, which employs 50 people, is capable of producing up to three million sheets of plasterboard a year.
CONCESSIONAL LOANS FOR FARMERS
The Association of Farmers of Uzbekistan organized a regional seminar in Termez on “The further development of fish and apiarian farming”.
It was attended by farmers from Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions.
Gradual reforms in agriculture have become an important factor in the development of farming movement and welfare of the population. Building in beekeeping and fish farms also gives tangible results.
As part of the program for development of fish farming and beekeeping, significant work is carried out in Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions. Currently, there are 63 fish and 55 apiarian farms in Surkhandarya region, and 28 fish and 18 apiarian farms in Kashkadarya region.
Since the beginning of the year, for the development of fish farming commercial banks in Surkhandarya provided more than 250 mln soums of soft loans used for launching 43 specialized fish farms. More than 200,000 fish and 12.5 mln fry were released to artificial ponds and lakes of the region for cultivation. Mehnat-Rohat farm of Muzrabad district as well as Kumsoy farm of Baysun district, Umid farm of Jarkurgan district, Al-Termizy, Abu Hurayro and Azizbobo farms of Uzun district have already gained wide experience in the cultivation of fish.
Good results achieved at Azimbobo farm of Chirakchi district, Kashkadarya region, Azamat and Bobo Ravshan farms of Mirishkor district, Abdurahmonov Boburjon farm of Kamashi district.
“We grow fish in a big lake near the village Avazkul,” says head of the Azamat farm, Abdurahmon Khudoyberdiev. “Currently, we are working on a processing enterprise.”
At the regional seminar, participants discussed fundamentals of fish-farming and beekeeping development, producing high-quality product and its processing, comprehensively discussed the existing shortcomings and expressed views on how to overcome them.
”The event gave useful recommendations for further development of the sphere,” said head of Malik Ashurov farm, Farruh Sohibov. “We keep 364 beehives. Last year we produced and supplied about three tons of medicinal honey. This year we are going to produce more than in the last year. During the seminar we had an opportunity to share experience with colleagues.”
Participants of the seminar learned about experience of Al-Termizi fish and Mayusy apiarian farms of Uzun district.

SAMARKAND PREPARES FOR INTERNATIONAL MUSICAL FESTIVAL
Musicians, signers and bands from more than 60 countries have expressed wish to participate in the seventh international festival Sharq Taronalari, to be held in August in Samarkand.
Held since 1997 on the initiative of the President, the Oriental Melodies festival has reached wide popularity around the world.
The forum plays an important role in popularization of the Uzbek musical art and familiarization of the Uzbek people with the world music. It also serves to strengthening friendship among the nations.
All songs and music will be presented live at the famous Registan Square. For the first time, representatives of Mexico and Costa Rica will perform this year, journalists were told at the press conference in the ancient city.
AWARDING CEREMONY AT SHOW-CONTEST «YAGONASAN, MUKADDAS VATAN!»
Awarding ceremony of the prize-winners of the Republican show-contest «Yagonasan, mukaddas Vatan!» (You is the one, the motherland!) and a gala concert with the participation of winners took place at the Turkiston Palace.
The concert was attended by the winners of show-contest of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the capital, representatives of the Ministries of Defense, Internal Affairs, National Education, Higher and Secondary Specialized Education, Culture and Sports, artists union of «Uzbeknavo», famous artists and young artists.
The contest took place in all regions of the republic in high spirit, and at a high organizational level, has revealed the new talented singers and performers of national art. Attention of fans of art was submitted to a lot of new music that glorified their motherland, independence, its achievements, enormous creative potential of our people.
As a result of the contest first prize was awarded to the Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Ozodbek Nazarbekov for his song «Jon Uzbekiston» with the words of national poet Dzhumaniyaz Dzhabbarova and music of Honored Art Worker Anor Nazarov.
The second was the Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Gulsanam Mamazoitova for the song «Fido Bul!» with Murtaz Karshibaeva poem, and music by, Anvar Ergashev, third place went to the singer of Namangan regional branch of «Uzbeknavo» union Malika Egamberdieva for the song «Uzbekistan» with poem from national poet Ikbol Mirzo, and music by Anor Nazarova.
The winners were awarded with diplomas and prizes.
