REGULAR SITTING OF THE LEGISLATIVE CHAMBER OF OLIY MAJLIS (PARLIAMENT)

On June 12-13 the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held its regular sitting in Tashkent. The member of the Committee on Industry, Construction and Trade J.Akramov spoke on the draft Law “On motorways”, the agencies reported.

Mr. Akramov said that the draft law was aimed at regulating the relations in the sphere of engineering, building, reconstruction, repairing, maintaining the motorways and utilizing them, the reports have said.

The bill offers the classification of motorways, establishes the order of their exploitation depending on the functional purpose, parameters and conditions of the traffic, as well as the responsibility of juridical and legal persons, who dispose the motorways.

With the adoption of this document the executive bodies will have a reliable legal basis for the development of transport infrastructure, which will promote the further rise of economy of the country and the level of people’s lives.

After the responses for the posed questions the Uzbek lawmakers are reported to have engaged in the discussion of the bill article by article. They have said that a special significance for the development of motorways is in their clear classification, lawful regulation of granting the land property for the construction of motorways, administering and separation of powers of various bodies, financing, building and maintaining the motorways.

At the same time the lawmakers are reported to have spoken on further bettering the document. The Legislative Chamber decided to come back to examine the draft law in the second reading after consideration the proposals taken to the floor during the discussion.

FIRST SINGAPORE TOURISTS ARRIVE IN UZBEKISTAN

The meeting with the first and initial tourist group from Singapore, which includes the representatives of the tourist structures of this country, journalists, and ordinary tourists, took place at the Uzbekturizm National Company in Tashkent, according to the report by Narodnoye slovo newspaper.

“The bilateral contacts have noticeably gone up following the State visit of President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Singapore,” the Chairman of Uzbekturizm National Company Zakhid Khakimov is reported to have said.

The Days of Uzbekistan Tourism were held in Singapore, where the Singaporeans could learn much interesting about Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, unique monuments of architecture, original culture and arts, national customs and traditions of the Uzbek people, wonderful venues of nature, as well as taste the Uzbek national dishes. All of this had prompted a particular interest in Singaporeans and the certain wish to go to Uzbekistan and see on their own the places they had heard about in the said events, according to the newspaper.

The visitors from Singapore are reported to have hoped that the two countries would successfully extend cooperation in the sphere of tourism since both sides enjoy enormous potential in this area.

As for Singapore, then this is not a big country, which has established the fabulous infrastructure of tourism that allows to receive nearly eight million tourists a year from around the world.

Singapore is always keen to receive visitors from Uzbekistan. The latter is also much willing to have Singaporean as its guests. The dynamically developing tourist infrastructure, the new tourist destinations year to year are attracting more and more visitors from abroad.

There are all grounds to believe, the newspaper wrote, that their numbers will boom in the days to come – also thanks to the number of tourists from Singapore.

FINNISH COMPANY TO SUPPLY NEW MET OFFICES FOR UZBEK AIRPORTS

In the 1990s UzAeroNavigation Centre signed the first contract with the Finnish Vaisala for the delivery of six airport met offices for the airports of Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Urgench, and Navoi.

Today, National Airline Company of Uzbekistan is preparing to sign a new contract with Vaisala for the delivery of another six complex radio-technological airport met offices (CRAMO) – Vaisala-4, Uzbekistan Airways' website says.

Vaisala-4 is intended for the measurement, collection and processing of met information on the key parameters of atmosphere on the aerodrome; formation, registration and distribution of information along the communication channels to ensure safe take-off and lending of aircrafts on the airports of Uzbekistan.

The use of Vaisala-4 CRAMO will ensure uninterrupted automatic collection and processing of eight most important indicators, which corresponds to the international requirements set by ICAO.

The integration of new meteorological system will take place with the assistance of the staff of the IRAM Institute of Radar Meteorology (Saint Petersburg).

PRESENTATION-EXHIBITIONS ON INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND INTER-INDUSTRIAL COOPERATION HELD

Presentation-exhibitions on the development of industries and inter-industrial cooperation were held by UzKimyoSanoat (Chemical Industry), UzbekNefteGaz (Uzbek Oil and Gas Holding), UzElTehSanoat (Power Engineering) Association, UzKurilishMateriallari (Construction Materials) and UzSelHozMash-Holding (Uzbek Agricultural Machinery Holding) on June 12 in Tashkent.

The aim of the exhibitions was to stimulate and intensify industrial development and inter-industrial cooperation, localization of finished goods and component parts production by the enterprises of the country.

The representatives of companies of the abovementioned industries and other Uzbek companies participated in the exhibitions. Presentations of different industries and companies, the products they produce and resources and component parts they import were made.

The lists of products, and component parts imported by producers, with details on technical characteristics were distributed by the presenters among exhibition participants. In the course of the exhibition, interest was shown by participants in setting up the productions of these products and component parts to them.

The same presentation exhibition will be held at Navoi Mining and Smelting Plant, and on June 19 at UzMetCombinat.

ISLAM KARIMOV VISITED BUKHARA REGION

On June 14 the President Islam Karimov arrived in Bukhara region to get acquainted with ongoing social and economic reforms.

During the trip the Uzbek head paid special attention to the course of agricultural reforms, in particular, the work on further development of farm movement.

On the territory of Sarbast-Kamol farm of Bukhara region, President Karimov talked with farmers, familiarized with conditions and available capacities for them.

President Islam Karimov visited the village of Afshona in Peshku district in Bukhara region, where great physician Avicenna was born.

The president went to see the museum of the great scientist of Middle Ages. Islam Karimov met with students of local medical college.

The Uzbek leader visited the memorial complex of Bahauddin Nakshband.

In the years of independence, large-scale work has been carried out in the sphere spirituality, enlightenment and education. Serious attention is paid to perpetuation of the memory of great ancestors, preservation and wide propaganda of their heritage.

Scientists are studying the heritage of Hadja Bahauddin Nakshband, an outstanding thinker, famous representative of Sufism, his invaluable contribution to the world intellectual treasury, as well as the effective application of this spiritual wealth in deed of upbringing young generation.

Viewing the complex, the Uzbek head appreciated the constructive work carried out during the years of independence, and noted the necessity of increasing orchards and flower gardens.

IODINE DEFICIENCY PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENT TAKES PLACE IN BUKHARA

The event, namely “The country with a healthy generation shall be strong“ took place in Bukhara, “Narodnoy slovo” newspapers reported June 13 this year. The council of the Bukhara department of the public movement of youth “Kamolot” along with regional department for healthcare are reported to have initiated the event.

The event seemed to be more like as a public awareness initiative since it has been dedicated to propagation of the essence of Law “On prevention of iodine deficiency-related diseases” and ensuring its fulfillment in the country, according to the newspapers.

The iodine deficiency leads to many diseases including the birth of children with various bodily defects and improper growth. The newspapers wrote that not only the doctors and medical personnel are responsible to prevent such maladies but also all those who are not indifferent to such cause.

Hence, each and every person, especially the young men and women, must be well aware of the need to engage in prophylaxis of the iodine deficiency.

The event has also seen the holding of quizzes and other tests followed by mood-elevating artistic shows, according to the newspapers.

MISS WRESTLING TAKES PLACE IN TOWN, EXAMINES GIRLS’ SKILLS IN COOKING, OTHER

The “Miss Wrestling - 2007” nationwide contest organized upon the initiative of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, Ministry for Culture and Sports, the National TV and Radio Company and Center on martial arts of Uzbekistan has ended at the Tashkent “Turkiston” Palace, according to the report by Narodnoye slovo newspaper on June 14.

In Uzbekistan the public organizations are making a worthy contribution to the strengthening of women’s health along with other ministries and agencies. In particular, the women’s tournaments, sports festivals, the professional contests, tournaments of the female students, and family sports contests which are held upon the initiative of the Women’s Committee have already become traditional.

The women, who successfully go in for martial arts, are said to have participated at the “Miss Wrestling - 2007” contest. But the knowledge of the participants, their worldview, thought, as well as skills in fine cooking, sewing, adroitness and ability to dance were taken into consideration at the contest, according to the reports.

Dilobar Saydullaeva, the four-times champion of Uzbekistan on taekwondo secured the main prize – Grand Prix. The first place went to the master of sports Julia Safina.
