UZBEKISTAN TO SUPPLY MEDICINES TO ARMENIA, GEORGIA

In 2008 the Tashkent Scientific Research Institute for Vaccines and Serums of Uzpharmsanoat state joint-stock concern will deliver medicine worth US$14 million to Armenia and Georgia, Uzbekistan Today News Agency reported.

"It is one of the first agreements on exporting the Uzbek vaccines to foreign consumers", Boltaboy Kakhkharov, Director of the Tashkent Scientific Research Institute for Vaccines and Serums, is reported to have been commenting.

"At the moment, we are negotiating with the Afghan partners to deliver medicines to this country".

In near time the institute will launch production of up to thirty types of medicine demanded at home as well as foreign markets.

"Now the vaccine output is growing in Uzbekistan and specialists predict waves of new customers", B. Kakhkharov is reported as to have said. However, the institute will be busy with conducting research since medicine production is additional activity for it. We intend to cooperate actively with such young companies of the Uzbek pharmaceutical industry as Biopharm and Noopharm that boast for the good conditions for vaccine production."

UZKIMYOSANOAT INTENDS TO INCREASE PHOSPHATE PRODUCTION BY 2010

Uzkimyosanoat (Uzbek chemical industry) state joint-stock company will modernize Samarkandkimyo (Samarkand chemical plant) JSC in 2007/08.

The implementation of project is a basic part of wide-scale program on increasing the output and export of phosphor fertilizers in Jeroy-Sardarin deposits by 2010.

The project ensures organizing the industrial production of new nitrate-phosphor-calcium fertilizers (nitrocalciumphosphate) by late 2008, using nitrate acidic processing method of unfortified Jeroy phosphorites in this enterprise having capacity of 34,000 tonnes (100% nutritive materials) a year.

Specialists conclude that nitrocalciumphosphate is an effective fertilizer because it contains nitrogen and phosphate as well as calcium oxide, a compound that is efficiently assimilated by plants, calcium nitrate. The advantage of new technology is that phosphorite raw of nitric acid is used instead of deficit sulfur acid and extraction of phosphor gypsum as a waste is prevented. Uzkimyosanoatinvest Institute developed the feasibility study of the project.

In February this of year President Islam Karimov approved the program on increasing the output and export of phosphate fertilizers in Jeroy deposit (Central Kizilkums) by 2010.

The program ensures development of prospecting capacity of the Kizilkum phosphorite complex that is developing the Jeroy deposit and modernization of chemical plants manufacturing phosphorite fertilizers.

According to Uzkimyosanoat, the program is financed, using the funds of state budget, Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, foreign credits and investments and own funds of Uzkimyosanoat.

In general the program foresees to develop processing capacity of Kizilkum phosphorite combine, leading processing deposit and modernization of chemical plants that are producing phosphoric fertilizers.

In the near five years Uzbekistan aims to expand phosphorite output from 860,000 tonnes to 1.2 million tonnes a year that will allow producing 400,000 tonnes of washed and fired concentrate, 200,000 tonnes of of dried concentrate, and 200,000 tonnes of phosphoric flour.

As a result of increasing the output of phosphor raw in this deposit and modernization of chemical plants, total output of phosphorite fertilizers must increase by 2010 up to 169,000 tonnes against 100,300 tonnes of 2005 including its export from 9,000 to 35,000 tonnes by this period.

The resource basis of the Kizilkum phosphorite complex is the Jeroy-Sardarin deposit in the Central Kizilkums having reserves of 303.6 million tonnes and 57.7 million tonnes phosphor raw which must satisfy the demand of agricultural sector for phosphor fertilizer for more than 100 years.

UZBEK ASTRAKHAN BECOMING VERY COMPETITIVE

In 2007 Uzbek Karokuli signed export contracts to deliver astrakhan worth US$3.38 million which is 53.6% more compared with contracts of 2006, Uzreport news agency reported.

The Head of Production and Breeding Coordination Department of Uzbek Karokuli Kenjaboy Madaminov said that the lambing season which is of great importance for sheep farmers passed successfully. In astrakhan breeding farms every hundred of 1.66 million ewes had 104 lambs. Owing to efficient work of farmers of Uzbek Karokuli the astrakhan livestock reached 2.68 million that is as more as 18,100 than that of last year, and 884,000 lambs are left for growing.

Specialists note the increase of demand for the Uzbek astrakhan goods in recent years. They are sold by signing direct contracts as well as in international auctions. Every year the Bukhara astrakhan enjoys more popularity here, and it successfully competes with grey Afghan and black Namibian astrakhans.

The Uzbek astrakhan farmers intend to show them and take stable positions in international fur auctions in Toronto (Canada) and Helsinki (Finland). According to K. Madaminov, development of Uzbek Karokuli is primarily connected with expansion of astrakhan output because demand for the Bukhara astrakhan is evident in the world market.

The increase of astrakhan export results in creating new competitive types of caracul sheeps having popular coloration today.

In recent time Russia has become one of the Uzbek astrakhan's main consumers. In addition, Uzbekistan delivers astrakhan to Cyprus, South Korea, Azerbaijan and other foreign countries. Uzbek Karokuli opens trading houses in Moscow, Minsk, Kazan and Nizhegorod region for more efficient sale of its goods.
