UZBEKISTAN DEVELOPS GIVEN PEACE AND STABILITY, SECURES IMPRESSIVE RESULTS, SAYS FORMER JAPANESE ENVOY TO UZBEKISTAN

The Special adviser to the Prime Minister of Japan, former ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan Mrs. Kyoko Nakayama has been to Tashkent on a working visit.

As a part of her stay in the country Mrs. Nakayama held talks at the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan, where she had discussed the issues of deepening and enhancing the cooperation of two countries. Despite her hectic schedule of stay in Tashkent Mrs. Nakayama has kindly agreed to talk to the Information Agency “Jahon”.

“During my visit we have discussed the issues of developing the economic ties between our countries”, Ambassador Nakayama has said. “It was literally today when the Japanese parliament has ratified the agreement on investment cooperation, which we had signed with Uzbekistan. We believe that this document will open up the new opportunities for extending and enhancing the mutually beneficial relations.”

“Unfortunately, the enormous potential of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan still remains to be unexploited in full. We hope that the agreement ratified by our parliament will serve for consistent expansion of scales of cooperation and will help to more effectively and fuller use the economic potential of our countries”, she has also said.

“Soon the capital of Uzbekistan – Tashkent – will celebrate its 2200th anniversary jubilee. In this regard, I would like to note that I visit Tashkent each year and each year the city makes me impressed in different ways: I notice that the city rapidly changes, the new modern buildings are emerging, the infrastructure is being bettered, and as always, the faces of people are illumed with light and sincere smile”, Mrs. Nakayama has revealed.

“Taking this opportunity, I would also like to congratulate the people of Uzbekistan yet on another holiday – the Independence Day, which will mark the 18th anniversary of the nation’s independence”, Ambassador Nakayama added.

“Uzbekistan led by President Islam Karimov actively develops its economy given peace and stability, while securing the impressive results”, former Japanese envoy to Tashkent said.

“On the eve of wonderful holiday of Independence I wish my Uzbek friends all the best, peace, tranquility, well being and prosperity!” she concluded.

UZBEKISTAN, SINGAPORE SIGN SEVEN AGREEMENTS

Third Uzbek-Singaporean Business Forum was held at the International Business Center of Business Federation of Singapore. The delegation of Uzbekistan arrived in Singapore to attend the forum.

Representatives of businesses, state and political circles of Singapore, interested in establishing cooperation with Uzbekistan in investment and trade, participated at the event. The Uzbek delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Economic relations, Investment and Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Property Committee, Uzpharmsanoat, Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information, Uzkimyosanoat, Uzinfoinvest, Uzbekneftegaz, National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activities and Uzelteksanoat.

Chairman of the Singapore Business Federation Toni Chu said the fundament for the forum was achieved at the visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Singapore in January 2007. He said the large number of Singaporean expressed interest to participate at the forum.

The Uzbek delegation presented their industries and provided information on programmes and priorities of development. Presentation of Navoi free industrial and economic zone attracted great interest, Jahon news agency reported.

The report said the Uzbek delegation held bilateral meetings and negotiations during the visit to Singapore.

During two-day visit to Singapore, the Uzbek delegation signed seven bilateral interindustrial documents. The documents laid ground for development of cooperation among partner organizations of Uzbekistan and Singapore in oil and gas industry, pharmaceutical, electronics, production of road construction equipment, attraction of Singaporean credits and investments, etc.

State Minister of Trade and Industry of Singapore Lee Yi Shyan said the visit of the Uzbek delegation is significant fact for business circles of Singapore, who express interest in expansion of the volume of trade-economic and investment cooperation with Uzbekistan.

Lee Yi Shyan expressed his satisfaction with established partnership relations with the Singapore Producers Federation and start of the activity of the company, which plans to produce satilite tuners in Navoi free industrial and economic zone.

BUSINESS ACTIVITY INDEX WIDELY DISCUSSED

A roundtable "Business Activity Index – barometer of economy" was held in Tashkent on 9 July. The Center of Economic Research, Economic Review magazine and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan organized the event, Uzreport Information Portal reported.

The event started wide-scale dialogue on formation of methodical approaches to calculation of Business Activity Index in Uzbekistan. Representatives of the ministries and departments, heads of private enterprises, representatives of international organizations, mass media and expert community participated at the roundtable.

Business Activity Index (BAI) is one of indicators, which reflects current state in various sectors or economy as a whole. Business Activity Index is used in various countries and it is figure on business mood of the business participants.

The index can serve as practical tool on planning process and development of the strategy of the company.

BAI do not reflect concrete prices, volumes, income and other parameters, and it is based on professional intuition and personal assessments of responders on current situation and upcoming trends in economy.

BAI could be useful to forecast of economic crisis and start of the economic growth.

BEELINE STARTS CONSTRUCTION OF FIBER-OPTIC NETWORK IN UCHKUDUK

Single communication operator Beeline (Unitel LLC and Buzton JV LLC) started construction of FTTB network (Fiber To The Building) in Uchkuduk city of Navoi region.

Construction of fiber-optic network in Uchkuduk is the second phase of wide-scale project on introduction of new technologies on data transfer in cities of Uzbekistan, which was launched in Zarafshan in November 2008.

Commenting event, Buzton director-general Ivan Smolentsev said: "New universal technology will not only provide Internet at the speed 100 Mbit per second, but it is also effective solution for fixed telephony. Now, our clients can be sure that under Beeline brand, they will receive all spectrums of high quality telecommunication services."

The network on data transfer allows users to access Internal and exchange traffic with connected entities for free. At the same time, FTTP allows to connect with fiber-optic cable, which does not demand on telephone line and does not require modem or other equipment.

Connection to FTTB network allows to connect to single computer group, located in various flats or cities for active information exchange, transfer of video, audio or other files from one computer to another, play games via LAN and others.

It is planned to complete construction of FTTB network in Uchkuduk till the end of august 2009.

REPORT: ARMED FORCES ACADEMY GRADUATES OBTAIN DIPLOMAS

At the Tashkent Central House of Officers the graduates of the Academy of Armed Forces of Uzbekistan were awarded the graduation certificates and badges, according to the report by Jahon Information Agency.

The teachers of the Academy, servicemen, members of public and the parents of graduates took part at the ceremony, according to the report.

Those who took a floor at the event have said that at the moment Uzbekistan accomplishes considerable work to reform the Armed Forces. The national army is getting bettered year to year.

The contemporary methods and ways of teaching with application of information and communication technologies as well as computers are now applied to the military institutions of higher learning.

The said institutions are also reported to have arranged the effective system of training the officer cadres with professional skills, intellectual potential, managerial abilities, as well as able making independent decisions at any situations.

Establishing the not-so-big mobile and well equipped Armed Forces with a modern weaponry and are able to protect Homeland is one of the priority directions of reforming the national army. In this, an important role is accorded to enhancing professional training of servicemen with consideration of both domestic and foreign experience.

SOIREES, EVENTS HELD AS NATION TO MARK CAPITAL CITY’S JUBILEE

The Alisher Navoi National Park alongside with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Republican Scientific and Methodical Center of People’s Art and the other agencies hosted the soiree on literature and music dedicated to the 2200th anniversary of the city of Tashkent, according to the “Khalq sozi” national Uzbek-language newspaper.

Uzbekistan pays a considerable attention to enhancing the people’s spirituality, and especially, of youth, preserving the national traditions and values, bringing up the upcoming generation in the spirit of love to Homeland, as much as devotion to the ideas of independence.

The Resolution of President “On preparing and holding of the 2200th anniversary jubilee of the city of Tashkent” serves as a powerful stimulus for the work now underway.

As a part of the celebrations of the 2200th anniversary of Tashkent in accordance with the city’s high authority and the capital status, various artistic exhibitions, creative festivals, contests and concerts are held. Apart from professional singers several amateur groups of singers take part at them.

FIFTEEN MILLION FLOWERS PLANTED IN TASHKENT PRIOR TO ITS JUBILEE

The entire capital city is preparing to celebrate the jubilee of Tashkent. The municipal department of the Makhalla Fund is undertaking an active work on improving and bettering the city, the “Narodnoye slovo” national Russian-language newspaper reported last week.

Thus, on the eve of the holiday one hundred thousand coniferous trees, two hundred thousand orchards and fifteen million of various sorts of flowers have been planted at the makhallas throughout Tashkent, according to the newspaper.

Besides, the “Makhalla” Fund undertakes substantial enlightenment work with participation of renowned scholars, historians, and the people of state and public organizations. They hold meetings with schoolchildren. The latter are told about historical sites of Tashkent, its role in the nation’s life.

Also, the brochure entitled “Makhalla” has been published in three languages - Uzbek, English and Russian – dedicated to the capital city’s anniversary.

It tells about makhalla, its significance in the life of capital as much as country.
