President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping traveled to Samarkand on September 10.

The high-ranking guest started his tour of the historical monuments of the ancient city from the Mirzo Ulughbek Observatory. The facility is indicative of the great genius of our ancestors, the deep roots and ages-old traditions in the evolution of our science. Xi Jinping got familiarized with the life and academic heritage of Mirzo Ulughbek.

The heads of two states visited the Amir Temur Mausoleum and the Registan Complex.

The Chinese President reviewed with big interest the Registan Complex, which is a unique illustration of the Eastern architecture art. He enquired into the stationary exposition of the national handicraft. Crafts and trade have been advanced in Samarkand from time immemorial. The handicraft articles of the skilful Samarkand folk masters used to spread via the Great Silk Road throughout the entire world, and they were in great demand in the Celestial Empire, as well. Samarkand played an important role in the advancement of China’s trade relations with a great diversity of countries, and in the further enrichment of its culture.

Xi Jinping noted in particular that the historic monuments of Samarkand – themselves epitomizing the ancient culture and the Uzbek national statehood as well as remarkable samples of national architecture – have made an unforgettable impression on him.

“I am very glad to have been honored by an opportunity to visit the city of Samarkand, one of the centers of world civilization. With my own eyes, I have come to believe that wide-scale efforts have been undertaken in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Islam Karimov designed to promote a comprehensive development of the country, a perpetuation of historical monuments and beautification,” China’s leader said.

“I am deeply convinced that the people of Uzbekistan led by President Islam Karimov will keep making remarkable achievements.”

The state visit of the President of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Uzbekistan has proved fruitful by all means. Toward the end of negotiations held at the Kuksaroy residence, Islam Karimov and Xi Jinping signed the Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation as well as the Joint Declaration on the Further Development and Enhancement of Bilateral Relations of Strategic Partnership. Also inked were numerous other mutually advantageous documents at the intergovernmental and interagency levels to further augment cooperation in the manufacturing sector, mineral resources, power industry, transport and high technologies, along with the enhancement of humanitarian ties. All this facilitates the elevation of strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the People’s Republic of China to a qualitatively new level.

The trip to Samarkand concluded the state visit of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to the Republic of Uzbekistan. China’s leader stressed that his visit to Uzbekistan has proved rather prolific, and expressed deep gratitude to President Islam Karimov for a sincere and warm reception.

On September 9, 2013 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia Igors Apokins.

During the meeting the sides discussed issues of Uzbek-Latvian relations, including a schedule of upcoming political contacts.

Chairman of State Committee on Competition of Uzbekistan received the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea - Uzbekistan News

On September 4 2013, the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Privatization, De-monopolization and Competition Development hosted a meeting of the Committee’s Chairman Aziz Abduhakimov with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan, Mr. Lee Wook-heon.

During the meeting it was noted that relations between Uzbekistan and Korea, who are strategic partners are dynamically developing. The volume of trade between the two countries in 2012 amounted to over $2.13 billion and grew by 31.4%. In Uzbekistan, there are now over 400 companies with Korean capital.

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea was informed of the Committee’s close cooperation with various organizations and companies in the Republic of Korea, namely, Korea Stock Exchange in the development of the securities market, the Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO) and the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS) on corporate governance, the Korean international Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in improving the training of personnel, etc.

At present, the preparatory work for signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the area of improving the management of state property between the Committee and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance of the Republic of Korea.

The two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.

Finally, Lee Wook-heon expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome the constructive atmosphere of the meeting and expressed his hope for further fruitful cooperation in the future.

Demand for production of Kungrad soda plant, a unique enterprise in Central Asia, is ever increasing.

Products of the company, manufacturing 100 thousand tons of soda annually, are under growing demand in the export markets as well. Company’s output, meeting international standards, is exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.

Taking into account increasing demand for soda ash both in internal and external markets, in line with the Decree of President of Uzbekistan from 15 December 2010 “On priorities of industrial development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015” production volumes of soda ash at the Kungrad soda plant is expected to increase by 100 thousand tons. Aiming to carry out these tasks an agreement on increasing annual production output in 2013-2015 from 100 thousand tons to 200 thousand tons was signed between Uzkimyosanoat JSC and a Chinese company CITIC. The project will be funded by a loan provided by People’s Republic of China in the amount of 81,7 mln US dollars.

Starting from this year production of quality iodized salt. The raw material will be extracted from Koraumbet salt deposit, not far from the enterprise.

- We plan to commission new production line in October, - says head of the enterprise Rashid Yakubov. – Preparation phase to implement this project has almost finished. The production line, employing 35 young professionals, will produce 10 thousand tons of iodized salt per year.

The opening ceremony of cogeneration gas turbine plant was held at the OJSC "Tashkent TPC". The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Japanese Embassy in Uzbekistan, the Japanese delegation of NEDO and TohokuElectricPower, members of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the mass media and the company UzbekEnergo.

We remind you that in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan ? PP-1277 of 4 February 2010 "On measures for implementation of the project of cogeneration gas turbine technology at OJSC Tashkent TPC”, the document on the implementation of the project was signed between UzbekEnergo and TohokuElectricPower.

The project included construction of a gas turbine with 27.15 MW production capacity manufactured by Hitachi with the heat recovery steam generator with capacity of 47 tons/hr

The purpose of the project is to increase energy delivery performance, reliability and efficiency of the thermal power central (TPC) in Tashkent, the introduction of modern technologies of energy production based on gas turbines, replacement of the equipment that has exhausted the rated life, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of operation of TPC, improving the reliability of power supply to the customers in city center and the reduction of emissions into the atmosphere.

As a result of the project, gas turbine unit with the capacity 27.15 MW will be commissioned, which can increase the electricity generation by 227.99 million kWh, and bring the total power production of the station up to 400.0 million kWh per year. Thus, the yearly gas saving will be 39 million m3, and CO2 emissions will be reduced by 49 tons per year.

A distinctive feature of the project is the new to Uzbekistan co-generation technology of combined production of electricity and heat. The technology is ecofriendly and safe, and meets the highest international standards.

The project was financed by UzbekEnergo’s own funds and grant funds under technical assistance of Japanese New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

TohokuElectricPower’s staff was permanently present on site as technical consultants to provide practical assistance with the designing and implementation of construction works.

Over 7 construction, assembling and start-and-adjustment companies took part in the construction of gas turbine unit.

As a result of this project electricity and heat production will increase, which ensures reliable and high-quality coverage of electrical loads of economic facilities and heat supply to consumers in Tashkent.

The delegation of French senators led by the chairman of the Friendship Group "France-Central Asia" of the French Senate, Senator André Dulait, who are on a visit in Tashkent, visited the French Institute in Uzbekistan (FIU).

More than 70 people, among them the French language teachers and students had the opportunity to ask senators questions about the relations between Uzbekistan and France, their views on the development of Uzbekistan since independence, and the role of the Senate in France.

Then the official opening ceremony of the section «Campus France» in Tashkent took place, which represents a new phase of strengthening university cooperation between the two countries.

The main objective of the section «Campus France» is to coordinate actions to assist students from Uzbekistan who are interested to continue their studies in France. It concerns the search for information and for appointment to the University. With the assistance of the agency «Campus France» in Paris, this section will also be responsible for promoting French higher education system in the educational institutions of Uzbekistan. More than 140 «Campus France» offices are already operating in 110 countries.

Tashkent international business center “Xalqaro Hamkorlik Markazi” hosted sub-regional seminar on "Ensuring the protection of intellectual property rights". The event was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Agency for Intellectual Property of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The seminar was attended by representatives of law enforcement, judicial, tax, customs authorities and other interested organizations in Central Asia and the Russian Federation. The speakers were experienced professionals from European countries. Among the speakers were WIPO Deputy Director of the Department for the development of respect for intellectual property Javier Vermandele and WIPO program coordinator of the department of transition and developed economies Saule Tlevlessova.

- “Our country is on the path of rapid innovative development ,- said the chairman of the Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Sports of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdugafur Mamatov addressing to the participants of the seminar . - The transformations during the years of independence were an important stimulus for the development of technological and artistic creativity. Legal guarantees in this area are ensured by the laws "On inventions, useful models and industrial designs", "On trademarks, service marks and appellations of origin", "The selection achievements", "On legal protection of software and databases", "On legal protection of topographies of integrated circuits", "On copyright and related rights". Our country is a party to 12 international treaties in the field of intellectual property, and is actively taking steps to ensure security and legal protection of IP. Lawmakers envisage making amendments and additions to the Criminal Code, Customs Code and the Code of Administrative Responsibility, as well as separate laws for the protection of industrial property.

Achievements of the republic in the protection of intellectual property are highly appreciated. President Islam Karimov is one of the first heads of state of the world to be awarded in 1996 the WIPO Gold Medal for his great personal contribution to the creation and development of the national patent system and the promotion of inventive activity, active participation of our country in the international patent legal system for the protection of industrial property.

- “In our country great importance is attached to the protection of intellectual property - said at the seminar, Deputy General Director of the Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Uzbekistan Maqsud Bobojanov. - Special attention is attached to law enforcement, as it plays an important role in ensuring the competitiveness of industry, economic growth and employment. Infringement of intellectual property rights such as counterfeiting and piracy leads to a slowdown in economic growth and investment, prevents the development of creativity, is detrimental to the interests of producers and rights owners, harms the reputation of the country”.

The speaker referred to the specific facts of suppressions of violations of intellectual property rights and the measures taken to curb the proliferation of counterfeit goods. For this the agency for intellectual property in conjunction with the state authorities take all appropriate measures in the form of inspections, raids, monitoring, including the Internet. As the result of these activities the producers and distributors of counterfeit products were identified, outlets selling illegal discs were revealed and pirate websites were closed. Only in the first 8 months of this year, over 600 violations were revealed, over a hundred thousand counterfeit discs worth 1.5 billion soums were seized.

In the country in order to raise awareness of a wide range of specialists of government and administration, law enforcement agencies, business organizations and the public about the benefits of intellectual property protection and the damage of the unlawful use of intellectual property to society, regular seminars and conferences are held, visits of experts to regions are organized.

Seminar participants shared experience on practical sides of protection of intellectual property and concluded the seminar had been very useful and helpful to increase the effectiveness of the work in this area.

An opening ceremony of a new recreational place “Youth lake” took place in Urgench.

In accordance with the Decrees of President Islam Karimov, directed at increasing industrial potential of Khorezm region, improving water supply of Urgench, development of tourism, huge creative works are carried out in the region. Commissioning of Youth lake in the regional centre has been another manifestation of such work.

Over 300 active and talented young people from all regions of our country, leaders of Kamolot public movement took part in the event.

Youth lake recreational place, covering over 15,5 ha, is a cultural and architectural complex, destined for recreation of population, in particular the youth, as well as local and foreign tourists.

– “Youth lake” has been an excellent present for the youth for the 22nd anniversary of the independence of our Motherland, – says chairman of the Khorezm regional council of Kamolot youth public movement Mansur Masharipov. – This place is a unique museum under the open air. In accordance with the special architectural design, models of historical monuments from our ancient cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Shahrisabd- Registan square, Minorai Kalon, Kalta Minor and others have been erected at the site. So the visitors will be able to not only enjoy the nature, but also to acquaint with the rich historical heritage of our country.

XV international futsal tournament among teams of diplomatic corps and international organizations, accredited in Uzbekistan, took place in Tashkent.

Teams of 26 embassies and representative offices of international organizations took part in the competition, organized by the Department of Diplomatic service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the opening ceremony it was noted that under the leadership of President Islam Karimov a special attention is paid to development and popularization of all types of sports.

The team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan took the first place, a team of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan came the second. Ukrainian Embassy team were the third.

This futsal competition has become very popular, - says doyen of the diplomatic corpse, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia in Uzbekistan Igors Apokins. – Every year there are more participants. This exemplifies once more the huge attention, given by President of Uzbekistan to development of sports, in particular, football.
