ISRAELI EXPERT VISIT PILOT FARMS

Israeli expert Ronen Faigenbaum visited pilot farms in Qui-Chirchiq and Chinza district of Tashkent region within the joint project of UNDP, MASHAV and Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan.

Uzbek farmers received advises from Israeli expert on planning of modern dairying farms. It was timely recommendations as majority of farms are reconstructing their farms, Uzreport Information Portal reported.

Israeli expert, UNDO specialists and representatives of Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan visited Samarkand and got acquainted with dairying farms of the region and held seminar on planning of construction of dairying farms.

CITY OF SAMARKAND COMMISSIONS 200 NEW ISUZU BUSES

With a view of bettering the transport servicing the local population in the city of Samarkand the city officials have commissioned 200 new Isuzu buses, the report by Jahon Information Agency said.

Those buses procured for leasing by the Samarkandyolovchitrans affiliate company from the Uzavtosanoatlizing company began servicing the city dwellers and the visitors along the route number 23, according to the report.

“Up to now the passengers have been serviced mainly by the micro-buses,” the chief engineer of the Samarkand City Motor Depot No.2531 Iskandar Shodiev said. “From now on the city dwellers and visitors to Samarkand will be able to enjoy services rendered by modern buses made at the Samarkand Automobile Plant.”

With commissioning of the new buses along the city routes over 300 people have been employed, the report said.

BUKHARA AIRPORT WINS INTERNATIONAL CONTEST

The best airport of the year contest among the CIS countries was held in Moscow. Bukhara international airport won among almost 50 other contenders, UzA reported.

The contest jury noted introduction of electronic tickets, strong technical base, including increasing of the plane parking spaces, using new technologies to clean the landing strip from dust and snow, as well as improvement of services.

The financial figures of the Bukhara airport have also been improving over the past years. The profitability level increased from 29.3% to 32.6%.

Last year, the airport served 84,000 passengers.

UZBEKISTAN TO PRESENT A REPORT ON OBSERVING CHILDREN'S RIGHTS TO UNICEF

Uzbekistan has to present a national report on children's rights realization to UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) to the end of 2009, Uzreport Information portal reported.

Starting from 1992, when Uzbekistan joined the Convention on Children's Rights, the country presented two national reports on the topic.

Significant progress in legal basis advancing and practical implementation of children's rights can be marked in Uzbekistan, according to UNICEF Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Makhbub Sharif.

Among advances in legal enforcement of children's rights he noted law "On guarantees of children's rights" coming into force in 2008, and joining of the republic to International Labor Organization conventions "On minimal age of employment" and "On prohibition and immediate measures on liquidation of the worst forms of child labor."

Uzbekistan is a participant of 38 international documents, referring to protection of rights of children and youth. One of the main international documents, to which the republic has joined, was Convention on Child's Rights, ratified by the parliament of the country in 1992.

SAMARKAND HOSTS CONFERENCE ON MIRZO ULUGBEK

An international scientific conference "Mirzo Ulugbek and his contribution to development of world science" opened in Samarkand city on 9 June.

Three-day event is organized in connection with the 615th anniversary of Uzbek scientist and statesman Mirzo Ulugbek and announcement of 2009 as International Astronomy Year by UNESCO.

Representatives of Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Italy, India, Russia, Turkey, France and Japan are participating at the event, Jahon news agency reported.

Scientific heritage of Mirzo Ulugbek and his contribution to common values of humanity will be discussed at the conference.
