Two Kazakh Hizb ut-Tahrir members arrested in Uzbekistan

Uzbek law enforcement agencies have detained two Kazakh citizens, carrying a large amount of extremist literature, the Uzbek State Customs Committee said on Thursday.

"During an examination of passengers of a train en route from Beinau to Kungrad, two Kazakh citizens were detained with books, magazines, and leaflets of the banned extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir. They were also carrying a large number of DVDs advocating religious extremism in the Arabic, Uzbek, and Kazakh languages," the committee said.

A criminal case has been opened and an investigation is underway.

Poll to reveal security level of state bodies' corporate networks

Uz-Cert website has online version of a questionnaire to study the maintenance of information security of corporate networks in state bodies of Uzbekistan. Its aim is to reveal how protected is computer network of the Uzbek state bodies.

In order to complete the interrogation form it is necessary to send official letter to UzInfoCom with contact information of the person responsible for filling the questionnaire inside a state body. After that the employee will get user name and password to enter online version of the questionnaire.

Uzbek party's centre organizes roundtable on entrepreneurship

Centre on support of entrepreneurship and farming under executive committee of UzLiDeP (Uzbek Liberal Democratic Party) initiated a roundtable to discuss problems of development of entrepreneurship and farming.

Representatives of UzLiDeP, MPs, Justice Ministry, State Customs Committee, State Tax Committee, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, Central Bank, Farmers' Association and Microcredit Bank attended the meeting.

The participants of the meeting considered issues on protection of interests of businesses and farms, which they are facing during their activity.

The representatives of Uzbek government noted that the government is adopting concrete measures to create favourable conditions for development of businesses and elimination of barriers.

The roundtable participants agreed that the recommendations will be submitted to the government to eliminate barriers, hindering to development of private sector in Uzbekistan.

Uzbek banks emit over 3 million plastic cards

Commercial banks of Uzbekistan emitted over 3 million plastic cards and installed some 12,000 terminals as of today, a press service of Uzbekistan Banking Association told UzReport.com.

The press service said one-third of Uzbek population use plastic cards and added that the number of issued cards increased by 8.3 times compared to 2004 and the number of terminals grew by 8 times.

The association said National Processing Centre, which unites 19 Uzbek banks, was created under the association. Besides, the association added, Single Interbank Payment System on soum plastic cards – Uzkart – was founded, which allows to carry our transactions in any trade and service points in Uzbekistan. Uzkart also unites 19 Uzbek banks, the press service said.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari plans to attract US$88.6m credit

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) state joint-stock railway company plans to realize three large projects on development of national railway system, the company said.

The company plans to attract US$88.6 million of credit from Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to realize these projects,

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari is planning to purchase equipment for repair base of the company due to US$18.2 million credit of IDB and to develop own car production due to credit of JBI for US$54.4 million.

The Uzbek company will develop and construct railway network, connecting Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, due to credit lines of IDB for US$6 million and JBIC for US$10 million. The project envisages reconstruction of bridge over Amudarya, railway stations Termez and Galaba, purchase equipment.

The company also plans to start production of cargo plans on the basis of local company. The company said feasibility studies are under development. The company expects to receive financing of the projects in the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari founded in 1994 and its charter capital is 197.6 billion soums. The company fully owned by the government and it has seven divisions.

Uzbek-Swiss textile company launched in Navoi region

Baht Textil, an Uzbek-Swiss joint venture, has been launched in Navoi regions, UzA news agency reported. The report said the new venture will produce cotton yarn.

The report said Navoi regional department of the National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity has allocated a long-term credit worth 500 million soums to the joint venture, which was set up on the basis of the Biznes Aziya factory. The company's authorized fund amounts to US$2 million.

Advanced technology is used in the factory. The joint venture's first production line has already been set up; the first output has been produced. By the end of the year there are plans to produce 7,500 tonnes of cotton yarn.

When the joint venture starts to operate at its full capacity, it will be possible to produce up to 12,000 tonnes of yarn per year. The output will be mostly exported abroad. Orders are being taken from a number of foreign partners, the report added

Pakhtakor claims second place in Asia on IFFHS rating

International Football Federation of History and Statistics (IFFHS), which headquarters located in German city of Wiesbaden, announced a new rating of 350 strongest football clubs in the world.

Uzbek champions Pakhtakor improved the position in rating IFFHS. In the new list, the Uzbek club jumped five places up to 121st place. The club is the second place in Asia, after Jordanian football Club Al-Faysali.

Inter of Italy is in the first place of the rating. Winner of European Champions League Barcelona and representative English Premier League Liverpool shares second and third places.

Uzbek cyclists leads in US tournament

Sergey Lagutin of Uzbekistan won three jerseys in cycling tournament in the USA, US media reported on Tuesday.

The reports said a climbing expert, Lagutin sprinted the 103-mile course in three hours and 50 minutes to claim the leader's jersey of Tour of Utah. The 25-year-old Uzbekistan national road champion also won the sprint and the best young riders' jersey.

Sergey Lagutin represents Navigator's Insurance, which has Cesar Grajales and Tour favorite Burke Swindlehurst of Salt Lake — both expert climbers in their lineup.

"I am happy to get three jerseys," Lagutin said. "The team really supported me," Lagutin said, adding that he doesn't have a helping role. "By the time we get to the later stages, we will see who's turning out better."

Lagutin, however, is not too ecstatic, especially with most of the race still remaining, Deseret Morning News reported. "This is mostly a climber's race, and the sprinters field is not that strong, so I am not reading much into winning a flat stage," he said.
