RUSSIAN ANTI-DRUG OFFICIAL ARRIVES IN UZBEKISTAN
Director of Federal Service on control over drugs turnover of Russia Victor Cherkasov arrived in Uzbekistan on Monday, 19 June.
It is expected that the head of Russian anti-drug service will meet Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev on Tuesday. It is also planned that the Russian official will meet leadership of law enforcement bodies.
The sides will discuss issues of further cooperation in fight against illegal drug turnover and participation of Uzbekistan in international operation Channel, as well as creation of anti-drug belt around Afghanistan. (UzReport.com)

SURKHANDARYA REGION SELLS 237,000 TONNES OF GRAIN
Grain breeders of Surkhandarya region fulfilled its contractual obligation and delivered 237,000 tonnes of grain to the state procurement points.
The report said that 67% of crop was received from private farms. It added that the farmers of the region are continuing harvest of grain. (UzReport.com)
BUKHARA REGION DELIVERS 127,000 TONNES OF GRAIN
Bukhara region fulfilled its contractual obligation delivering 127,000 tonnes of grain to state procurement points. The average yield was 55.5 metric centner per hectare or 2.8 metric centners more compared to previous year.
The report said farmers of Vabketn, Bukhara, Peshkun and Kagan district made significant contribution to success of the region. It added that Bukhara collective farm of Shafirkan distict recorded 80 metric centners per hectare.
The agency added that the region is continuing harvest of grain. (UzReport.com)
NEW BUKHARA-MOSCOW FLIGHT ROUTE
“AirUnion,” the Russian air alliance opened new regular flights between Bukhara and Moscow.
TU-154 M aircrafts that belong to the alliance will make flights between the cities on Saturdays.
“AirUnion” unites five airlines from Russian Federation; “Krasnoyarskiye avialinii”, “Domodedovskiye avialinii”, “Samara”, “Omskavia” and “Sibaviatrans.” The alliance will also open a flight between Bukhara and Sankt Peterburg in July. (UzReport.com)
CHINA PROPOSES TO CREATE FIBRE-OPTIC NETWORK WITHIN SCO
China proposed to create fibre-optic network among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation by 2010.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a regional alliance of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The heads of state of these six countries signed a declaration on its formation in Shanghai on 15 June 2001. Mongolia, India, Pakistan and Iran have observer status in the organisation.
The aim of the organisation is to stabilise the situation in Central Asia, consolidate friendship and good-neighbourly relations among the member-states, and develop cooperation in the political, economic, scientific and other spheres.
Chinese Information Industry Ministry's official said the creation of such network will have great significance to development of communication infrastructure in each SCO state, improve communication technologies and quality of communication. (UzReport.com)

“ASSALOM QUYOSH” ENSEMBLE TAKES PART IN THE FOLKLORE FESTIVAL IN BELGIUM
International Folklore Festival held in city of Saint-Ghislain of Belgium from 28 May till 8 June. Groups from Spain, Italy, Belgium, Macedonia, Russia, Ukraine, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Kenya as well as Uzbekistan’s dancing ensemble “Assalom Quyosh” (Good morning, Sun) led by Ms. Mubarak Mirzaeva took part in the festival.
Uzbek dancers arrived in Belgium long before the festival’s inauguration. Invited by the International folklore festivals organization “Assalom, Quyosh” presented its concert programs in a number of Belgian and French cities. More than 15 thousand people attended Uzbek group’s show. According to the music experts, “Assalom, Quyosh” has been recognized as o¬ne of the best folklore groups, presented at Saint-Ghislain festival.
The Day of Uzbekistan and presentation of social-economic and cultural potential of the country was held within framework of the festival. Mr. Claude Durieux, the Governor of Hainaut province, Mr. Freddy Deghilage, the Burgomaster of Saint-Ghislain city, as well as Belgian experts, businessmen, foreign diplomats and journalists attended the presentation.
Mr. Freddy Deghilage said at the presentation that the event was a great opportunity for his compatriots to get acquainted with Uzbek history, economy and culture.
The President of International Folklore Arts festival Daniel Coustry noted that Uzbek dancers fascinated and won the hearts and sympathy of their viewers.
Speaking at the presentation, Mr. Vladimir Norov, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium, noted about the possibilities of the development of the mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belgium in the spheres of economics, education, culture and tourism. The documentary o¬n history, culture and achievements of Uzbekistan during the years of Independence was presented at the event. (“Jahon” Information Agency)
UZBEKISTAN ADOPTS PROGRAMME ON DEVELOPMENT OF SOAP OPERAS
A resolution of the Uzbek government approved complex of programme "National soap operas", an Uzbek media official said on Monday.
Nizomiy Mahmudov told journalists that the first Uzbek soap operas with total volume of 10 hours will appear already this year. He said each year the volume of soap operas will increases 10 hours each year and by 2010 the production of volume will increase to 50 hours.
The programme envisages formation of priority directions on development of domestic soap opera production industry, creation of art groups, preparation and re-training of stag, development of thematic plans and scripts.
The document also stipulates creation of specialized film studio, which will be equipped with modern equipment. (UzReport.com)
NEW PLAY STAGED AT YOUTH THEATRE
Youth Theatre troupe is preparing to stage a new play. After the great success of Moliere's Tartuffe, the premier of which was held in Saint Petersburg at the big festival of CIS theatres.
The theatre decided to continue the theme of this author's plays and this time it chose The Doctor In Spite of Himself.
The play had earlier been staged by the theatre in 1992. That year the Youth Theatre received 4 awards for this play at the Theatre and Time Festival. Unfortunately, the play has been excluded from the repertoire for seven years.
But in response to the multiple requests from the audience, the director the theatre Nabi Abdurahmanov decided to return the play to the stage of the Youth Theatre. The play involves nearly all of the theatre's actors, including young students of the famous director. (UzReport.com)
