PRESIDENT OF UZBEKISTAN RECEIVES PREMIER OF STATE COUNCIL OF CHINA
On November 2, 2007, at the Oksaroy Residence in Tashkent the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Premier of the State council of the People’s Republic of China Wen Jiabao, the agencies reported.
President has said that this is the first official visit by the Premier of the State council of the People’s Republic of China and the meeting in Tashkent furnishes a good opportunity to exchange views on the relations between the two countries.
Islam Karimov has underscored that he highly assesses the current state of the Uzbek-Sino relations, the pace of development of cooperation, and the fact that both Uzbekistan and China are the active SCO members strengthens the mutual trust.
The mutual trust and respect between the leaders of Uzbekistan and China are important in this process. After the Interstate treaty on partnership relations of friendship and cooperation was signed in 2005 the Uzbek-Chinese relations rose to a higher level and acquired more significance.
Uzbekistan and China enjoy the most favoring regime in economic sphere. In 2006 the volume of trade accounted for nearly 600 million US dollars, and for over the January-August this year – 447 million US dollars.
The agreements signed during the State visit of the President Islam Karimov to Beijing in May 2005 envisages the flow of investment to Uzbekistan’s economy worth 1,5 billion dollars. At the SCO Summit in Tashkent in 2004 China has announced about allocation of credit worth 900 million US dollars to the Organization member-states. Twenty-two projects, which have been elaborated by Uzbekistan, are now under consideration. All this witnesses about the scale of economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.
Agreements signed between the two states on cooperation in the struggle against terrorism, separatism and extremism, as well as on interaction and consultations of foreign ministries of both countries serve for further strengthening of mutual trust.
At the Oksaroy talks in Tashkent Wen Jiabao thanked the President for the sincere welcome by also saying that China is interested in further expanding the cooperation with Uzbekistan.
TWO PMS HOLD TALKS, SIDES INK DOCUMENTS TO BOOST TIES
On November 3 this year the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev met with the Premier of the State council of China Wen Jiabao, the Uzbekistan National News Agency Russian-language website reported the same day.
The sides are reported to have exchanged views on further expanding the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.
The negotiations have resulted in adopting the Joint Communique between the governments of the two countries on the outcomes of the visit of the PRC State council Premier Wen Jiabao to Uzbekistan.
The sides have signed the Memorandum of understanding on environment protection, intergovernmental agreements on technical and economic cooperation and implementation of the project of Treatment and surgery center in Tashkent.
They are also reported to have signed the Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Finance and China’s Eximbank, credit agreement between “Uzpromstroybank” and Eximbank of China, contracts for implementation of sowing land improvement projects in Ferghana, radical water supply improvement in Ferghana, Marghilan and residential areas at their vicinities, electrification of the railroad along the route “Tukimachi-Angren”, and the framework agreement on delivery of 150,000 tons of cotton fiber to China.
CHINESE PREMIER MEETS PARL. SPEAKER, LEARNS ABOUT UZBEK PARL.
As a part of his visit to Uzbekistan later last week the Premier of the State council of the People’s Republic of China Wen Jiabao met with the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Erkin Khalilov.
According to such report by the Uzbekistan National News Agency Russian-language website, the sides have said that the relations between Uzbekistan and China are developing in all spheres, and in particular, in the area of parliamentary ties.
Premier Wen Jiabao is also reported to have learned about the activity of the bicameral parliament of Uzbekistan.
During the talks the sides have exchanged views on the current state of relations and prospects of cooperation of legislative bodies of Uzbekistan and China, the report has said.
PREMIER TALKS TO UZBEK SENATE CHAIRMAN, ENDS VISIT TO COUNTRY
On November 3 the Premier of the State Council of China Wen Jiabao held talks with the chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilgizar Sabirov, according to the Uzbekistan National News Agency.
The sides have underscored that the official visit of the Chinese Premier to Uzbekistan would serve for further intensifying the bilateral cooperation.
Wen Jiabao has said that he supports furthering the friendly ties and mutually beneficial cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Uzbekistan, in keeping with the New Agency.
Also, the sides have said that the parliamentary cooperation plays an important role in advancing the bilateral relations.
The same day the Premier of the State council of the People’s Republic of China Wen Jiabao concluded his official visit to Uzbekistan.
TASHKENT HOSTS SESSION OF COUNCIL OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENTS OF SCO MEMBER STATES
The session of the Council of heads of governments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Tashkent on November 2.
Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov, Premier of the State Council of China Wen Jiabao, Acting Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev, Head of Russian Government Victor Zubkov, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Akil Akilov, SCO General Secretary Bolat Nurgaliyev and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure Myrzakan Subanov participated in the session.
Representatives of the SCO observer countries (India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan), as well as the First Vice President of Afghanistan A.Masud also participated.
They discussed issues of cooperation in strengthening security and stability in the region, as well as development of economic and humanitarian ties among the SCO member and observer states.
The talks focused on the fields like transport, fuel and energy, industry, agriculture, high technologies and the humanitarian sphere.
The session ended with signing of a Joint communique, the Agreement on cooperation and mutual help in customs field among the SCO governments and other documents.
ADOLAT SOCIAL-DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF UZBEKISTAN HOLDS MEETING
Adolat Social-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan has held a meeting in Tashkent. The members of parliament, the elected representatives of the party councils of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent, the members of the Adolat fraction of parliament, deputies of local Kengashs (Councils), and the representatives of media participated in the meeting, UzA reported.
The First Secretary of the Political Council of the Adolat Party Dilorom Tashmuhamedova delivered a report. The report said that the activity of the Adolat Socio-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan was observing some positive changes. The popularity of the party is rising (over 60,000 members). Ten deputies elected by the members of the party work in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis. The members of the party are taking an active part in the socio-political life of Uzbekistan.
It was particularly noted that the presidential elections scheduled for 23 December 2007 would be an important political event with special implication for the intensification of democratic reforms being implemented in the country. That is why the Adolat Socio-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan thinks it is an important task to participate actively in the upcoming elections, which promise to be a serious political school, a school of democracy, a trial of the socio-political maturity of all members of the party, its primary organizations. The elections will provide an opportunity to implement the principles of democracy into practice, the report said.
During the meeting a decision was made to put forward the candidacy of the First Secretary of the Political Council of the Adolat Party, the head of the fraction of this political party in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis Dilorom Tashmuhamedova.
The participants of the meeting discussed the main programme items of her report.
They also discussed other issues concerning the activity of political parties, and made appropriate decisions.

CONSULT-FORUM HELD IN TASHKENT
The First Consulting Forum in Uzbekistan, Consult-Forum, opened on November 2 at the Tashkent House of Photography.
The Chairman of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Uzbekistan Alisher Shayhov, the National Director of the BAS Uzbekistan Shukur Mirzajanov, the Regional Director of the BAS Programme for Central Asia Gabriel Al-Salem and others spoke at the opening ceremony of the event.
Consult-Forum is the first event of its kind in Uzbekistan, intended to demonstrate the current condition and the prospects of the development of the consulting market in the country, to demonstrate the potential and opportunities available for consulting companies to the representatives of the business community.
More than 50 enterprises are taking part in the forum. It is the first event, where consulting and training companies, as well as the certification bodies have come together at one place.
BEKABADCEMENT'S OUTPUT MAKES UP 22BN SOUMS IN 1H 2007
Construction materials produced by BekabadCement Joint-Stock Company find high demand both in the domestic and foreign markets. The staff of the enterprise pays close attention to the issues concerning the enhancement of the quality of products, their diversification, and increasing the export volumes.
The company that employs more than 1,500 people produced cement for over 34.4 billion soums last year. The company exports to Russia, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan.
A source in the company told UzA that in the first half of this year the volume of cement production made up 22 billion soums.
In addition to the cement, the enterprise also manufactures roofing sheets.
The company has developed a special plan of fulfillment of the tasks outlined in the State Programme on the "Year of Social Protection". According to the plan, financial aid has been provided to 200 single seniors, the veterans of war and labour. Also, some 5 million soums have been appropriated for the repair of the company's kindergarten and schools.
UZKDB'S NET PROFITS UP BY 119%
The Uzbek-Korean UzKDB operates with a constant focus on meeting clients' needs by offering high quality banking services at competitive price and with maximum efficiency.
In the first three quarters of this year, the bank's net profits grew by 119% compared to the same period of the previous year to 3.2 billion soums, the bank's public relations department said.
At the end of the reporting period, UzKDB's assets made up 96.6 billion soums. To compare in the late September last year it constituted only 72.5 billion soums.
The bank's total capital grew by 117% to 20.2 billion soums. Also, the bank has a big credit portfolio. Its size has grown by 108% over the year to 25.7 billion soums.
UzKDB is an international commercial bank engaged in universal banking services which operate at international standards, backed by a good technical base, experienced and ambitious staff.
The bank aims to fully automate banking operations using international payment systems. This should give it a major advantage in provision of fast and reliable service to the clients.
NAVOI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OPENS
Navoi airport has recently been given the status of an international airport. It can now send and receive international flights.
The official opening of the new international airport was held in Navoi. At the ceremony, the officials said the airport would play an important role in raising the economic potential of the region and the country as a whole, UzA reported.
The head of the Navoi Agency of Air Communication Salohiddin Nurimov said the first flight en route Andijan-Navoi-Moscow has already been conducted.
Regular flights have been opened between Navoi and Tashkent.

ATOEV OF UZBEKISTAN SECURES GOLD AT AIBA BOXING CONTEST IN U.S.
Uzbekistan national boxing team finished 7th at the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) World Boxing Championship in Chicago in the United States, collecting one gold medal thanks to 81 kg light heavyweight Abbos Atoev’s 20:17 win over Russian Artur Beterbiev in the finals.
Along with securing his place in the final competition of 2008 Beijing Olympics, Atoev become the next 81 kg light heavyweight AIBA World Champion winning his all five games during the tournament.
First came Konstantin Bejenaru from Romania, who failed to continue the fight after round 3 due to referee decision to stop the contest, as Uzbek boxer was already outscoring his opponent, leaving him no chance to recover. Atoev’s next opponent - Mamadou Diambang from France also left the ring immediately after the start of the contest being unable to continue because of his injury.
On his way to the finals Atoev also defeated Mario Saviola from Croatia in the quarterfinal stage (17:6) and Erkebuyan Shinaliev from Kazakhstan (17:8). In his final contest Atoev defeated Russian Artur Beterbiev in four rounds (20:17).
FORUM OF CHILDREN’S NEUROLOGISTS
The Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan and the Republican Association of Children’s Neurologists have led the conference devoted to actual problems of children’s neurology. Experts from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan have taken part in the forum.
At the meeting modern techniques of treatment of neurological diseases of children have been discussed. “It is pleasant to note that foreign colleagues are very interested in the developments of Uzbek experts, - says Professor Gulchehra Sodikova, the manager of the faculty of neurology of the Tashkent Pediatric Institute. - They have given a high estimation to the methods of treatment of epilepsy offered by us and to diagnostics criteria of diseases of a spinal cord”.
THE PATIENT MAKES A CHOICE
The emergency medical service for many years has come to the aid of people. Only in Tashkent its experts daily serve about three thousand of calls.
- Basically our doctors render aid in the house conditions, - tells the chief of the department of the Tashkent “emergency” service Nasiba Mahmudova, - however approximately 500 people per day are hospitalized. 121 brigades work in the city, forty of them are specialized - nurseries.
- For the last two years the division is equipped with a modern communication system, - tells the chief of the department of the Tashkent “emergency” service Vilis Pak. - The computerization of reception of applications has allowed carrying out the strict control over qualitative service of each call. All conversations of operators of the service are saved in the memory of a computer. The continuous communication with exit brigades is supported on a portable radio set, it allows to save time in “rush hours” in the direction of a machine to a new call.
By the information of the vehicle transport department of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan in the beginning of 2008 the state emergency medical service will receive new big-volume “HUNDAY” cars.
Recently on the market of medical services there have appeared several new private companies of the emergency medical services. But specialists do not speak about competition, as the main thing in their job is to help people. “We are entrusted the task on provision of a free first medical aid guaranteed by the state, - tells Nasiba Mahmudova.- All services rendered by the alternative organizations are paid. And that patients have a choice now is for the best”.
