“Fund Forum presents Uzbekistan” in UK

A reception commemorating the 20th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence in London included a presentation of the album “Fund Forum presents Uzbekistan” along with a showcase of photos based on the album. Organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London, the event was attended by over 200 people, including members of British royalty, representatives of the Parliament, Foreign Office, the business community, media, officials of diplomatic missions as well as members of the British-Uzbek Society.

The presentation was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Langham Hotel which was established in 1865 as the first grand hotel in Europe. It is famed as a spot once frequented by Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle, Princess Diana, Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde. The hotel also figures in stories about Sherlock Holmes and the James Bond movie “Golden Eye”.

The reception included an extended photo exhibition featuring works that appear in the brand new album published by the Fund Forum. The album contains works by local and foreign photographers. It includes sections such as “Tashkent, the fortress city”, “Samarkand, Pearl of the Orient”, “Bukhara the Noble, Bukhara the Saintly” and “Khiva, the divine daughter of the Amudarya”.

The visitors showed a keen interest in the photo exhibition and samples from the album on display and shared their impressions.

Natalya Yeremina-Yusupoff, Vice-president, Authors and Publicists International Association: “The traditional reception in honor of Uzbekistan’s Independence Day is a remarkable event. Once again, we are amazed by the hospitality of our Uzbek friends. I would like to note the amazing photo exhibition held as part of this event. This is a great opportunity to view works by celebrated talents such as Andre Rau and several Uzbek photographers who demonstrated through their works the splendor of ancient Oriental culture which can be seen in Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent. For some guests here these photos open a new country. It is as if the photos of architectural masterpieces we see here bond Great Britain and Uzbekistan with silk threads.”

Kath Rees, chief executive, The Haven Wolverhampton, UK: “We are impressed by the reception marking Uzbekistan’s Independence Day in London as well as by the beautiful cultural programme. The photo exhibition is particularly interesting. The new book “Fund Forum presents Uzbekistan” and the photos on display illustrate the ancient architecture of Uzbekistan and its rich history. We are looking forward to traveling to Uzbekistan in late October to attend the upcoming “Style.Uz” Art Week in Tashkent.”
