Speaking after talks with visiting Indian Prime Minister Mahmohan Singh, Karimov said his nation would welcome 50-50 sharing of energy supplies with Indian companies in exchange for allowing the companies access to Uzbekistan's sizable gas reserves.
The Central Asian country has the third-largest natural gas reserves in the former Soviet Union after Russia and Turkmenistan, extracting 55 billion cubic meters (1.9 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas a year.
"We see Uzbekistan as an important element in any effort to optimally utilize the energy resources of Central Asia," Singh said.
