PRESIDENT TO PARTICIPATE AT CSTO EXTRAORDINARY SESSION
On February 4 this year President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will participate at the extraordinary session of the Collective security council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to take place in Moscow, according to the Jahon Information Agency.
The CSTO participating countries include Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

ROUND TABLE ON MONITORING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF REGIONAL PROGRAMS OF PRIVATIZATION AND INVESTMENT
Bukhara region khokimiyat hosted the round table on «Monitoring the effectiveness of regional programs of privatization and investment: the legal and economic aspects», organized by the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on budget and economic reforms.
As noted in the speech by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on 8 February 2008 on the basis of socio-economic development of the country in 2007 and the most important priorities of deepening economic reforms in 2008, more than 700 new enterprises with the participation of foreign investment were founded in 2007. It is worth to note that joint ventures are established, primarily in high-tech industries such as light industry, food processing, electrical, chemical and petrochemical industry, machinery, manufacturing of construction materials, telecommunications and information technologies.
Today, the proportion of enterprises with foreign investment account for one third of the country’s foreign trade, and exports of their products has increased over the past year by 62 percent.
For example, the results of the regional programs of privatization and investment in Bukhara region in 2008 indicate that foreign investment of 256 billion sums was attracted.
Participants of the round table made suggestions for changes and additions to the relevant legislation in order to attract more private foreign direct investment for the implementation of privatization programs.
During the discussions, the participants of round table made a number of proposals and the recommendations for monitoring the effectiveness of regional programs of privatization and investment.
Senators, Deputies of Kengash People’s Councils of the Bukhara region, representatives of the Ministries of Finance, Economy, Justice, Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, the State Tax Committee, the State Property Committee, the State Statistics Committee, the Central Bank, Chamber of Commerce of Uzbekistan, the media, as well as academicians, potential investors and business owners attended the round table.
ATTN. TO CATTLE-BREEDING IN UZBEKISTAN PROVES TO BE EFFECTIVE
According to the Uzbekistan National News Agency, the nine farmers are engaged in livestock breeding at the Zangiota District in Tashkent Province. More than fifty specialized cattle-breeders are caring after over 28,000 livestock.
As a result of considerable attention, which is now being paid in the country to extending the reforms in agriculture and developing the cattle breeding, last year the volume of meat and milk production grew by 17 percent in comparison with 2007. Raising the number of enterprises on processing the cattle-breeding products gives good results.
At the moment, two enterprises on processing milk are functioning in the district, according to the report. The Toshkent-agro-sanoat Limited Liability Company produces qualified goods such as sour-cream, butter, kefir, cheese, sheep- and cottage cheese.
“We have launched shop at our farm on processing milk based on modern technologies,” M.Badalov, the director of the Bek Baraka Agro Biznes Farm in Zangiota District, said. “Every day we process up to five tons of milk. Thanks to the attention paid to cattle breeding, the supplies of are also improving.”
LOCAL ENTERPRISE MEETS NEEDS OF CONSTRUCTION SITES FOR BRICKS
In 2008 more than 64,500 square meters of housing, over 30 trading facilities and tens of service stations were built in Ghallaorol District in Jizzakh Province, the Uzbekistan National News Agency reported.
For example, as the report has said, the Ghallaorolkurilishtrans private enterprise well contributes to such cause in terms of providing the construction sites with quality burnt bricks for reasonable prices. Last year the enterprise delivered to customers more than three million bricks, according to the news agency.
Until recently this construction material was brought to the area from elsewhere in Jizzakh, Samarkand and other provinces. This problem was resolved since Ghallaorolkurilishtrans private enterprise has been commissioned with its production capacity up to 15,000 bricks a day.
“About 20 people are now employed with our enterprise,” the businessman Rustam Sandiboev said. “We deliver our products to customers on our own which is very convenient for them. This year we are going to expand the volume of production as well as the number of jobs.”
UZKIMYOSANOAT WORKS ON MODERNIZATION OF CAPACITIES
Uzkimyosanoat (Uzbek Chemical Industry) state joint-stock company is carrying out work on modernization, technical and technological modernization of enterprises of chemical industry for 2007-2011, UzA reported.
In particular, the company is working on improvement of efficiency of the enterprises in the sector through introduction of modern technologies and equipment
The report said that the carried out works helped the industry to increase export volume by 30% year-on-year in 2008.
Thanks to modernization, Navoiazot open joint-stock company decreased electricity consumption by 13.5 million kWt per hour, natural gas – by 3.16 million cubic meters.
Jizzakh Plastmassa open joint-stock company launched production of polyethylene pipes with diameter of 315 to 630 mm.
The report said the programme on modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of enterprises of chemical industry for 2007-2011 includes over 30 investment projects. About US$291 million will be spent to realization of the projects, which will help to expand production 1.5 times.
It is expected that the programme will assist to decrease electricity consumption and increase exports of chemical industry.
Currently, the enterprises of the chemical industry produce over 150 types of goods.

DOCTORS TELL YOUTH ABOUT ‘DISMAL EFFECTS’ OF GRAVE DISEASES
The Decree of President Islam Karimov “On additional measures to raise efficiency of counteracting spread of HIV-infection in the Republic of Uzbekistan” of December 26, 2008 is an important guideline for action the along the work to strengthen the medical skills of youth, avert defects alien to the national values and mentality of the Uzbek people.
Those who participated at the meeting held in the Tashkent State Institute of Culture on the topic of “The healthy way of life is a guarantee of health” spoke about this, the Uzbekistan National News Agency reported.
The event organized alongside with the Republican Institute of Health and Medical Statistics hosted the professors, teachers, doctors and students, according to the report.
The delegates to the meeting have noted that Uzbekistan pays a special attention to bringing up healthy and harmonious mature forthcoming generation immune to bad habits, as well as organizing useful spare time for the youth.
The doctors told the students about the measures of preventing diseases, dismal consequences of drug addiction and AIDS, while calling them to observe a healthy lifestyle.
RADIO FREQUENCY COMMISSION DISCUSSES WORK DONE IN 2008
Late last week the State Commission on Radio Frequency of the Republic of Uzbekistan held meeting in Tashkent, the Pravda Vostoka newspaper reported.
The agenda of the meeting included the discussion of outcomes of the Commission’s activity in 2008 and approval of the plan for this year.
The delegates noted that last year the Commission continued the work on transferring from analogue to digital broadcasting, implementing the action plan on realizing final acts of the World Radio Communication Conference (WRC) of 2007 and preparing to WRC-11, international-legal protecting of interests of Uzbekistan in the area of using radio frequency spectrum.
The participants of the meeting are also reported to have listened to the information on the work of radio frequency bodies of the country last year, including the work on creating a sole register of radio frequency being carried out in line with the Article 17 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On radio frequency spectrum”.
The list of distribution of frequencies of Uzbekistan with amendments and addenda was also approved according to the resolutions of the World Radio Communication Conference in 2007.
The delegates to the meeting discussed the issues on skilled exploitation of radio equipments by users of radio frequency spectrum in dedicated bands of frequencies according to the decisions of the State Commission. Those who took a floor at the sitting spoke on using radio electronic means on the territory of the country being imported both for realization and meeting the own needs of juridical entities.
The proposal on the need of improving methods of defining the number of mobile communication subscribers based on international experience was also discussed at the meeting.
UZBEK WRESTER BATTLES THOSE STRONGEST AT THE GREECE CONTEST
The first contests of the series of the International Kurash Association (IKA) for 2009 - the Fifth International tournament of Islam Karimov took place with success in the city of Thessalonica in Greece.
Over hundred wresters of almost 30 countries competed in three weight categories. The silver medalist of Beijing Olympics on judo, the World champion on kurash Abdulla Tangriev defended the honor of Uzbekistan at the contest.
The sharpest and most implacable battle flashed in combats of absolute weight category. In the decisive battle Abdulla Tangriev won over Illiadis Dionisis of Greece and secured the highest step of the pedestal of honor.
Chvicha Htsiklauri of Georgia who overcame Alexander Tsopouzidis of Greece embraced top place of the pedestal at the final contest among wresters on a 73-kilogram weight category. The Greek Moises Illiadis won a victory over Ruslan Abdurazzakov of Kazakhstan and earned a gold medal at a 90-kilogram weight category.
