On February 10, 2006 the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support from Brussels Institute of World Languages and Interpreters organized conference dedicated to 565th anniversary of great Uzbek poet and philosopher Alisher Navoi.
More than 250 participants attended the conference including representatives of political, academic and cultural circles, businessmen, Belgian scientists, writers and students, representatives of international organizations, EU institutions and diplomatic corps, accredited in Belgium as well as journalists from different Belgian mass-media.
The participants of the conference were informed about the efforts of Uzbekistan aimed at revival of spiritual, cultural and scientific heritage of Uzbek people, about life and creativity of great Uzbek poet and philosopher Alisher Navoi and his role in formation and development of Uzbek literature.
Frans De Laet, Director of Brussels Institute of world languages and interpreters, prominent Belgian historian Professor Jean Blankoff of Brussels Free University and Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Mr. Vladimir Norov delivered speeches and reports at the conference. The students of Brussels Institute of world languages and interpreters presented poems of Alisher Navoi in French, English, German and Russian languages.
