The celebration of the 22nd Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Brussels City Hall

18 September 2013 in Brussels City Hall took place the celebration of the 22nd Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Celebration was attended by more than 300 representatives of political, business, and academic circles of Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg, the European Union, international organizations and diplomatic corps, as well as representatives of mass media.
Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Belgium Mr. Vladimir Norov during the opening ceremony said that after gaining the Independence in 1991, Uzbekistan had chosen its own unique way of development the essence of which is the construction of free civil society based on market economy and creation of high level life standards of its citizens. He also stressed, that in the time of the global financial and economic crisis, Uzbekistan for the last 5 years demonstrates an annual GDP growth for more than 8 %. The quality of life of Uzbekistan people is improving and is being testified by the decline for more than 3 times the maternal and child mortality, and the increase in average life expectancy from 66 years to 73 and a half.
It was mentioned that during the 22 years of independent development, Uzbekistan due to its economic and cultural potential became influential actor in the international political arena.
The Member of the European Parliament Mr. Paolo BARTOLOZZI congratulated the people of Uzbekistan with the 22nd Anniversary of the Independence and wished further development and prosperity.
He noted that during the years of Independence Uzbekistan became not only reliable partner in the international arena, but also demonstrated significant progress in the social, economic and political development.
Mr. Paolo BARTOLOZZI stressed that the European Union considers Uzbekistan as a key country in the Central Asia and guarantor of regional stability and security.
MEP also drew attention to the ongoing development of constructive inter-parliamentary dialogue between Uzbekistan and the EU. In particular, he stressed that the 10th meeting of the Cooperation Committee that is planned in Tashkent on October 29th 2013 would contribute to further expansion and deepening of relations.
Member of the European Parliament Mr. Joachim ZELLER also expressed his congratulations on the occasion of the 22nd Anniversary of the Independence of Uzbekistan. He noted that during short period of time, Uzbekistan was able to achieve outstanding results in the economic, political and democratic development.
Mr. Joachim ZELLER said that as a member of the European Parliament Delegation for Cooperation with Central Asia and Mongolia, he previously visited Uzbekistan. During the visit he noticed that the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan are aimed at improving the welfare of the people. In his speech he also noted that Uzbekistan has the key and constructive role in regional cooperation.
The group of Uzbek musicians and dancers presented the colorful cultural program, which was warmly received by the audience.
