SCO RATS Council Members Meeting

Council meeting was held in a businesslike and constructive atmosphere

Representatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Republic of Kazakhstan, People’s Republic of China, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan met for the fifteenth regular session of the Council of Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, in Tashkent last week.

During the meeting, participants reported on the implementation of decisions of the SCO RATS Council and the Program of Cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Fighting Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism for 2007-2009, was made by the Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO RATS M. Subanov.

In this regard, the meeting’s participants discussed issues of improving cooperation in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism. It was noted that the activities of the SCO RATS correspond with modern threats and challenges in the struggle against terrorism, separatism and extremism.

Proposal by the People’s Republic of China to hold a meeting of representatives of competent authorities in the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to exchange operational information in the field of combating terrorism, separatism and extremism, in China in December, 2009, was supported by all parties.

The meeting also endorsed comprehensive measures of SCO member states to assist the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Kazakhstan in ensuring the security of the World Exhibition “EXPO – 2010” in Shanghai (China), Guangzhou Asian Games 2010 and the Winter Asian Games in Kazakhstan in 2011.

The activity of the Executive Committee of the RATS SCO for the past year was positively appraised. The working plan of this body for 2010 was approved, too.

Council adopted several decisions on organizational and human resources nature. The representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the first deputy chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan Adil Shayahmetov was elected to the post of the Chairman of the SCO RATS Council for one year.

The sixteenth session of the SCO RATS Council will be held in Tashkent April 2010.
