Credit for Investment Project
Today, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is one of important international partners of Uzbekiston Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) state joint-stock railway company.
To date, the result of this active cooperation has been a large-scale work for the rehabilitation of about 700km of trunk railway in the country, as well as modernization of telecommunication systems and creation of a fiber optic line. Using its own funds as well as those borrowed from the ADB, Uzbekiston Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) state joint-stock railway company also purchased modern track machines and mechanisms.
The next stage of the Project “Modernization of Railways of Uzbekistan” at the expense of the second ADB loan has began in 2002. The project also plans creation of a fiber-optic line that would held to modernize the telecommunications network and implement an effective network and information systems management.
According to experts, as a result of completing the railways’ rehabilitation more efficient cargo and passengers transportation was promoted, volume of transit traffic grew as well as increased the speed of freight trains’ delivery timing.
In order to reduce operational costs and equipment of modern technology, Uzbekistan Railways plans to attract in the future the ADB loan in the amount of US$20 million for the investment project “Upgrading the Fleet of Railway Track Machines and Mechanisms”.
